Chapter ll

I was worried. It had been a week since the library incident and Kal hadn't talked to me since. I mean, we had said hi and stuff, but we haven't actually talked. Every time I walked into the room he would stop talking and avoid eye contact. The worst part is that I couldn't figure out why. Even Darcy had noticed.

"Did something happen between you and Kal?" Darcy asked after what was probably the hundredth awkward encounter with Kal this week.

"I don't think so..." I said with a frown. "He's been acting weird ever since the library."

"Do I need to talk to him for you?"

"No! I mean, I'd rather talk to him myself."

"Okay, if that's what you want."

"Hey guys!" Kaylee greeted as she ran through the crowd of students to give us a hug. "Do you guys want to go dress shopping after school today?"

"Why would we need to go dress shopping?" I asked, confused. Was there a dance coming up?

"Homecoming! I've seen your closet Lori. You need a new dress! Your coming wether you like it or not."

So there was a dance coming up. Is that what Kal had been talking about? But why would he talk about that with me? "Okay, okay! I'll go!" I say with a smile.

"Count me in. Oh crap! Come on Lori we're gonna be late!" Darcy said right before we took off running towards physics.

---------------------------------------------

The car ride to the mall was extremely awkward. It was so bad that Dax and Darcy didn't even try to fight. Halfway there Kaylee had turned the radio on high to try to lessen the awkwardness a little. It didn't work. I couldn't figure out why Kal was mad at me! I really missed talking to him! More than I would like to admit.

"YOU'RE INSECURE, DON'T KNOW WHAT FOR, YOURE TURNING HEADS WHEN YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOOR, DON'T NEED MAKE-UP, TO COVER UP, BEING THE WAY THAT YOU ARE IS ENOUGH!" Darcy suddenly started to sing along as loud as she could. One Direction. Of freakin' course. Nothing against them, but I'm not really a fan of their music.

"TURN THAT CRAP OFF!" Dax and Kal screamed at the same time. Kaylee just smiled and smacked Kal's hand away from the radio.

"EVERYONE ELSE IN THE ROOM CAN SEE IT, EVERYONE ELSE BUT YOU!"

"MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!" Dax screamed and Darcy leaned over me to sing right in his ear.

"BABY YOU LIGHT UP MY WORLD LIKE NOBODY ELSE!"

"STOP IT!" Dax tried to cover Darcy's mouth with his hands, but she just bit him and kept on singing. Meanwhile, in the front seat, Kal was trying to change the radio station without looking, so he could drive, and Kaylee kept smacking his hand away. I couldn't help it. I started to laugh like crazy. Everyone had stopped fighting to stare at me, but I didn't care. For the first time in a week things had finally felt normal!

Kaylee started to laugh along with me and soon everyone was laughing. It was great. We continued to laugh all the way up to the dress store.

"What do you think of this one?" Kaylee asked as she showed me a short, black, strapless dress with an empire waistline and a flowy skirt.

"That's really pretty Kaylee! It will look so good on you!"

"This one's for you! Kal is holding mine!" She pointed over to where Kal was sitting with a short, white, strapless dress that had a poofy skirt and a thick, hot pink ribbon tied around the waist. She pushed me into the dressing room where Darcy already had her dress on. She was wearing a short, one shoulder, dark purple dress.

"Is that the dress?" Darcy asked as Kaylee handed me the dress and pushed me into a stall.

"Yep! Pretty isn't it?" Kaylee said, sounding proud.

"Very," Darcy agreed. "Hurry up Lori! I want to see how you look in that dress!"

"Coming!" I quickly finished zipping myself in and rushed outside without looking in the mirror.

"YOU LOOK SO CUTE!" Kaylee tackled me in a hug as soon as I walked out.

"Let me see!" Kaylee let go and Darcy gave me an appraising look. "I can't wait to show Kal."

Why would she want to show Kal?

Kaylee quickly changed into her dress and we all walked out together.

"BEHOLD PEASANTS! YOUR PRINCESS IS READY FOR THE DANCE!" Darcy announced as soon as we exited.

Kaylee immediately grabbed Dax and Darcy to go looking for suits, leaving Kal and me alone.

We stood there in awkward silence before Kal scratched his head and blushed. "You um... You look nice," he said quietly.

I blushed and lowered my eyes, "Thanks." I looked up,"Kal I'm really sorry for whatever I did to make you mad!"

"What? Why would I be mad? Especially at you!" Kal said, surprised.

"You've been avoiding me all week, so I kinda assumed..."

"No! It's not because I don't like you! It's because I do!"

"FINALLY! YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT!" Kal and I jerked around to see Kaylee hiding behind a clothes rack. She slowly ducked back behind the rack as she said, "You saw nothing."

Kal and I stared at the spot where Kaylee disappeared. Kal turned back to me and smiled nervously. "So what do you say? Want to go to homecoming with me?"

---------------------------------------------

I'm evil. I know. Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I don't own the song "What Makes You Beautiful" or 1D.

I don't particularly like them either. Darcy does though. (I think that was the second biggest understatement of the century)
