Chapter 8

"Lori."

I rolled over and buried my head into my pillow.

"Lori. Lori. Lori. Lori! Lori! LORI!"

"What in the name of gosh do you want!" I yell at the person standing by my bed. I'm normally nice, but I am not a morning person. At all.

"Woah someone's fiesty!" Kaylee says as she yanks me out of bed. "Come on! I'm gonna get you ready for the first day of school!"

Oh shoot. School. I was so busy hanging out with Kal and Kaylee and everyone else that I kind of forgot about it, or refused to think about it. Luckily, I had already gotten my school stuff back in WV.

"Kaylee, what are you doing in my room?" I asked groggily.

"I told you! To help you get ready for school!"

"Yeah, I got that, but how did you get in?"

"You left your window open."

"Kaylee..."

"I'm just kidding! Your mom let me in." Kaylee walked over to my closet and started to sort through my clothes. She picked out a pair of dark blue jeans and a light green blouse. She threw them into my arms and told me to get changed, and then walked down to start making breakfast.

I walked down the stairs and was greeted by the smell of French toast, syrup, and bacon. When I entered the kitchen I saw Kaylee happily cooking away. My whole family, including my dad who was home for once, was sitting at the island eating breakfast.

"Hey Lori! Ready for some breakfast?" Kaylee puts a plate down in front of me and sits down next to me.

"Kal should be here anytime now," she says between bites.

"Whose Kal?" My dad askes with a puzzled look on his face.

"My twin brother," Kaylee explains. "He's the only one of us that has a car, so he gets to drive everyone to school."

"Everyone?" I ask.

"Yeah. Me, you, Darcy, and Dax. Since we all live pretty close to one anouther it's easy to carpool. Plus it's fun!" Kaylee smiles just as the door bell rang. It was time for school.

"Lori, what's your schedule?" Darcy asked from the front seat.

"I have Pre-Calculus first, then Creative Writing, Physics, Japanese lll, Lunch, US History, Art ll, and then Study Hall."

"Yes!" Darcy reached back and gave me a high-five. "We have everything except for electives together!"

"Aww, lucky! My only classes with Lori are Creative Writing and Study Hall!" Kaylee whined.

"Wait, are you saying that you are finally taking a normal class this year?" Dax asked, sounding astonished.

Kaylee rolled her eyes, "They won't let me take all AP. Apparently it will be to 'difficult' for me."

"You know," Kal said, "for anyone else it would be."

"Aww Kal! Don't be jealous that I got all the brains." Kaylee teased.

"It is pretty ironic that Kaylee is the smart one in our group," Darcy laughed.

"For once," Dax said, "I agree with you."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ms.Reed please come to the front of the room and introduce yourself," the US History teacher, Mr. Faux, said as I inwardly groaned. Every single teacher today had made me introduce myself. Why couldn't they just let me skip embarrassing myself? I stood up and slowly began to walk towards the front of the room.

"Hi, I'm Lori Reed," I said akwardly. Why couldn't he let me sit down yet?

"Ms. Reed you are gonig to have to do better than that! Why don't you tell us where you are from?"

"Charleston, West Virginia,"

A girl with dark black hair and a hot pink hairband raised her hand.

"Umm... yes?"

"I've been to Virginia Beach. Is that close to there?" She asked.

"....No" I almost face palmed. Why the heck does everyone ask me that! Virginia and West Virginia are two different states. They have been for almost one-hundred-and-fifty years!

She raised her hand again.

"Don't you marry your cousins in West Virginia?"

I stood there shocked and speechless. Where the heck had that come from? Did people really think that about us?

"Are you trying to be an idiot, or are you just naturally that stupid?" Darcy asked. "Of course they don't marry their cousins!"

"I wasn't asking you! I was asking Lori who, by the way, never answered my question."

"Well, I just answered it for her."

"Ladies!" Mr. Faux said loudly. "It is still Ms.Reed's time to speak. Does anyone else have any more questions? No? You may now take a seat Ms. Reed.

I greatfully sat down in my seat between Darcy and Dax and behind Kal. I sent a grateful smile to Darcy and then prepared for two more hours of school.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So, how was your first day of school?" Kaylee asked as we walked towards the parking lot.

"For a new school, pretty good."

"Don't worry you will only be the new girl for a couple months. Then people will start ignoring you like they ignore everyone else!"

"Umm... thanks?"

Suddenly, a tall boy with short brown hair and brown eyes came up behind Kaylee and put his arm around her.

"Ryan. How. Many. MOTHERFREAKING. Times. Do. I. Have. To. Tell. You. To. Stay. Away. From. Me." Kaylee twirled around and kicked him hard in the crotch.

Ryan collapsed into the fetal position screaming on the ground, covering his now bruised crotch with his hands.

"OHMYGOSH! Are you okay!" I turned to Kaylee. "Is he okay?"

"He's fine. Dont worry!" Kaylee smiled. "He might have some problems inthe future though, but for now he is completely fine!" She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the car where Kal and the others were waiting  to take us home.
