Late August -

I'll be frank: the heist failed. Big time. The youngest agent prodigy in an elite secret organization was arrested. I couldn't get through that stupid hatch. Thankfully, with some finagling, the authorities realized that my failed break-in was really just a big misunderstanding. An innocent, nobody girl was just out too late and thought she was going home and got lost. She thought it was the door of her house, a simple mistake, the police reassured me.

One thing I have noticed about the world is how incompetent even the most well-meaning adults are. I managed to get out of months in prison, or even a trial, all by myself. It took some talking, but negotiating was part of my unusual education.

Regardless, I've made too many careless mistakes recently. Great job, Snicket. I need to get my act together, and stop making stupid mistakes.

The world will hopefully be quiet here.

PS– Widdershins gave a couple rocks and seashells that L found in the town he's apprenticing in. Since it's not safe for L to come here, or for me to go there, Widdershins was kind enough to deliver the trinkets when I got away from the cops, their suspicions skillfully eased.

PPS- I don't like that Ellington Feint. She told me of the... relationship between her and my brother. Let's just say I'm glad to be rid of her. Talk about a rat with no morals.
