"Something went wrong..." Ellie muttered, pacing back and forth. "Something definitely went wrong.""This is just a delay." Hammond said, putting a jacket over Ian. "All major theme parks have delays. When they opened Disneyland in 1956, nothing worked."
"But, John, if the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down the pirates don't eat the tourists." Ian pointed out, his voice shaking just ever so slightly. Marlene bit her lip slightly, placing her hand over Ian's as Ellie spoke.
"I can't wait anymore. Something went wrong, I'm gonna go get the power back on."
"You can't just stroll down the road, you know." Muldoon said, clicking his tongue.
"Don't be too hasty."
"I'm going with you." Muldoon said, not letting John finish as he unlocked a cabinet. Opening it, there was a variety of guns and other small weapons. Taking one from the stand, he loaded the rifle with bullets. Marlene and Ian shared a concerned look as John got out a large pamphlet of instruction for the circuit breaker.
"Now, this isn't going to be just switching on the kitchen light, but I think I can follow this and then talk you through it."
"Right." Ellie said, grabbing two walkie-talkies and handing one to John.
"But, uh, it ought to be me really going."
"Why?"
"Well... I'm a- and you're a, um-..."
"We can discuss sexism in survival situations when I get back. You just take me through this step-by-step, I'm on channel two." She said, rolling her eyes. Sharing a look with Muldoon, nodding her head as the two began their journey up the stairs.
"Wait!" Marlene said, the two stopping near the bottom of the steps to look at her. Straightening her posture, she looked at Ellie, a small smile on her face. "Don't tell me you aren't going without me, are you El?" Smiling at her, Ellie waved her on, silently giving her the approval. But before she could even take a step, a hand grabbed her forearm.
Looking down at Ian, he had a look that was a mix of panic and worry. "Don't tell me you're going."
"I'm going."
"But- But you can't!" He hissed, sitting up. "You could get hurt, or, uh, much worse, killed. You must be a complete moron if you think I'm letting you go out there."
Holding back a scoff, Marlene shook her head. "Well I'm sorry, Ian, but last time I checked I never asked for your permission. Now did I?" She shot at him, yanking her arm back. "Look, I get it, you're concerned. But they will need all the help they can get. And who better to help than the girl who has been studying dinosaurs literally all her life."
"Please, don't go." He tried one more time, becoming absolutely desperate at this point as he grabbed her hand. Ian was frightened that something would happen, that if he let go of her then the butterfly effect would take full course. That if he let go of her hand, then that would lead into her brutal demise. And the thought made him sick.
