Love.
What is it?
Is it a feeling?
If so how do you know you feel it?
Because I thought I'd known love, but it turns out I was mistaken.
Maybe it would just be better not to feel at all right?
Unfortunately, that's not something I can control.
Love is painful.
That much I know about love.
Yeah, I know it can be great. But it is also painful.
My view of love has changed ever since I lost her. The love of my life.
Now I don't believe in soulmates but if not being in her arms hurts this much I can say that we were right?
Watching romcoms, the love always seems so pure, and true, right?
But that's not love.
If you could love without fighting, there wouldn't be single parents.
Love is a burden. It makes you do selfless acts. Makes you lose yourself to someone else.
So, I'm declaring that I don't believe in love. Why waste time on something that will only hurt you?
Enough of my sad and depressing thoughts. Back to my wonderful job! (Note the sarcasm).
"You can't not believe in love." My best friend Sam says. "That's like not believing in life. How can you live without love?"
"You do know that life isn't about love, right?" I ask as I restock the shelves. "Just because you're a hopeless romantic."
She rolls her eyes, "I am not!" I give her a look. "I'm not!"
"You told me last week that you were in love with a boy you just met," I tell her as she scoffs. "And the week before that."
"Okay, okay! I get it." She grumbles as she takes note of the produce. "I'm just saying love isn't that bad."
I sigh, rubbing my temples.
"Just promise me you'll at least try?" She asks. "Just because you got dealt a bad one, doesn't mean you should give up."
"I'm not making a promise. Because love is bullshit." She groans rubbing her hands over her face.
"Well, you love me, right?" She asks and I nod, "I love you but I'm not in love with you."
We check the rest of the shop, before locking up. "You coming to mine?" She asks before I can answer footsteps are heard.
"Oh no! Are you closed?" We both turn to the voice and my jaw drops. "Oh man, do you think you could let me get something really fast?"
I immediately take note of her British accent, her voice raspier than most women. Realizing I was gaping I quickly clear my throat averting my eyes.
I don't believe in love.
"Err.. yeah, I'll take you in," I say turning to Sam. "I can't come over tonight. I'm swamped with work."
She nods looking at me with a knowing look. Flickering her eyes to the brunette. I roll my eyes shooing her away.
"Call me when you get home, yeah? Love you!" She calls out and I nod, "Yeah, love you too!"
"Thank you for this." The woman says I give a small smile, unlocking the doors.
I internally groan realizing I'm gonna have to reset the alarm. "You can get what you need, I gotta do the alarm," I tell her and she nods.
