Mention of abusive relationship.

I'm woken up to whimpers and mumbling I groan and rub at my eyes looking to the side to check the clock on the nightstand, seeing it's two in the morning.

I sit up and begin to look for the TV remote thinking that's where the noise came from, only to see the TV off, but the noises coming from my girlfriend.

Any drowsiness I was feeling immediately went away, and I began trying to calm her, and I placed my hands on her arm and slaps them away.

Ouch.

I call her name until her eyes open, and she curls into herself, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She kept repeating as she rocked her body.

And I was confused but shook it away to console her, I gently caressed her arm and her whole body jerked away, and I frowned.

"Anne?" I whispered and it seemed to shake her out of whatever trance she was in as she looked around the room. Tears began running down her face and I hesitated to touch her, not wanting her to pull away again. "C-can I h.. hold you?" I ask slowly afraid she'll say no, but she nods. I slowly wrap my arms around her, not holding on too tight giving her room to pull away if she wants. She buries her face in my shoulder and I soon feel wetness and I assume she's crying. So I try and comfort her as best I can without knowing what's going on. "Are.. are you okay?"

She mumbles no while shaking her head into my shoulder, her arms, wrapping under mine to pull me closer, I caressed the back of her head playing with her hair knowing it calmed her.

"I don't know what I did to deserve you." She says but it's muffled by my shoulder but I hear every word. I push her away asking why she would even think that, "m-my ex always said that I would never deserve to be loved by anyone." My jaw clenched as she looked at me with teary eyes, and a tear falls from her eyes, and I go to wipe it but she flinches, and my heart breaks at the fear in her eyes.

"Anne, I would never hit you, you know that right?" I ask trying to level my voice to stop my own tears, she nods but it's hesitant, "did your ex hit you?" She looks down but nods her head, slowly and sniffles, again, and I feel anger curse through my veins, who would dare hit her? Let alone make her feel like she's not good enough. "Do you want to talk about it?"

She shakes her head no, hugging me tightly again, and this time I return the hug, with the same intensity, hoping that her scent will calm me down because I'm trying to not imagine getting my hands on her ex.

"I love you so much, okay and you deserve to be loved," I mumble and kiss her forehead repeatedly, and she repeats the words, and I slowly begin rocking our bodies.

I hear her breathing even out, besides the sniffles that were coming through her body, and the position wasn't exactly comfortable, so I shifted to lay us down.

And she gripped at my shirt, opening her eyes looking frantic, until they settled on me, and she calmed but her grip on my shirt didn't falter.

I didn't care about that, her ex better hope that I don't find out who they are, I'll become their worst nightmare.
