The situation was tense. Amar had not let go of Meghna since the moment she collapsed at the Wearhouse.

"What the hell are you waiting for? If something happens to her-"

Finally letting go, He directs his anger at the medical team now. Grabbing the lead Doctor’s collar in the process.

"Sir we have the antidote. She will be fine. If you can just let us do our job?"

The doctor tries to reason with him, as his team was already scrambling to treat Meghna.
Pathaan was still holding on to the leads collar when Rubai steps closer. She places a hand over pathaan's shoulder trying to calm him down.

"Meghna will be fine Pathaan. We have the best team looking after her." She says with a calm smile on her face.

Pathaan looks at her finally, relief washing over his face as he registers the words. The look is immediately replaced by guilt. Rubai recognizes it and asks him to follow her into the living room.

-----

Rubai and Pathaan sit side by side on his couch. Their knees touching. Rubai finally breaks the silence,

"Kabir told me, about Meghna, about Amar."

She turns to look at Pathaan at the same time as he looks up. He's not surprised.

"I'm sorry Rubai. I-"

"It's okay. We all have a past."

She tries to give him a smile. He tries to say something more but she immediately follows with a calm tone.

"But right now, we only have two important things at hand. One, make sure Meghna recovers well. And two, catch LUCIFER. You let me worry about the second. I'll contact you as soon as we get any leads."

Rubai gets up from the couch. She continues talking as she walks towards the door. Pathaan follows her,

"You take care of Meghna. Not everyone gets a second chance."
She nods at the bedroom door.

"She's not a second chance Rubai. May be in another life, Amar needed Meghna. Not Pathaan." He says with his usual tilt of the head.

His words.sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than Rubai.

"Take care." Rubai smiles at him as she walks out the door. Pathaan is left standing there.

"Sir-" pathaans thoughts are interrupted by the lead doctor. He quickly turns around to look at the man.

"Sir, miss Meghna is stable now. It was just a graze. She should be fine by morning. We have given her the medicine. I’ll send a nurse around tomorrow to change the dressing." The doctor explains.

"Thank you doctor." Pathaan nods curtly.

Soon the medical team leaves as well, leaving pathaan alone with Meghna in the house.

-----

On Pathaan’s bed, Meghna lies peacefully on her stomach. The soft glow of the night light was making her look innocent. A white medical patch was visible on her bare right shoulder. Her blood soaked clothes from earlier are discarded in a pile on the floor. Pathaan enters the room with a bottle of water in his hands. He had freshened up and changed into fresh clothes.
He walks towards the bed and places the bottle on the side table. He glances over at Meghna's sleeping form. She looked peaceful.

He adjusts the duvet over her back and that's when he notices the scars there. They were healed now, but the new tissue had left marks. They must have been deep gashes when they were fresh. Pathaan lightly traces his fingers over them, careful not to wake her up. He gives her one last, longing look before leaving the room for the night.

Author's note: finally, a long chapter. Hehe. <coz I lack portion control and idk how to cut the fic hence forth, if not logically. I wrote the thing like an actual movie, so the pause had to be theatrical>
