"i'm onika! and i'm ten!" onika exclaimed, looking at the girl that was sitting beside her. she poked her shoulder to get her attention.

she turned slowly and looked at onika. she gave a puzzled look, like she didn't know who the young girl was talking to. the child scrunched her face up, her freckled face showing distaste.

"umm, my momma says no talking to strangers. sorry!" she shrugged, going back to doodling on her paper. she hummed a song to herself. onika sighed and waited a few more minutes then tried again.

onika looked over on her desk to read the name tag that was taped to the top of it. her brown eyes widened then narrowed as she tried to figure out how to pronounce the unique name.

"be-yun-see! i said i'm onika!" the child tried, folding her arms across her chest to show her frustration. the other girl looked again, but with a scowl.

"first of all, that's not how you say it! it's beyoncé! get it right!" she rolled her eyes then continued. "second of all, you're a stranger!" she folded her arms across her chest just like onika.

"well we can be friends! we go to school together! i cant be a stranger, duh!" onika cheesed, flashing her best smile and batting her long lashes.

she sighed, clearly catching on that onika was stubborn and she had no choice but to talk to her. her logic made sense. "i guess so."

onika bothered the girl all week long. she knew she was getting irritated by how persistent onika was, but the ten year old didn't care. she really wanted to be her friend. she was nice and really pretty. she had long hair, beautiful eyes, freckles and she wore glasses. the glasses made her even prettier to onika.

the two were sitting on the swings, just talking. "beyoncé?" onika asked, looking over at her. she wasn't looking at her friend, just at everyone else on the playground. "it's me and you. forever, right?"

she pushed up her glasses and nodded.

"mhm! always." she smiled, turning to face onika now. she scrunched her nose, and it caused onika to giggle.

onika was so happy to have met beyoncé and become her friend. she was hoping she would always get to have her around.
