the girls were now in their freshman year of high school. the start to their high school career definitely was not going like the two had previously planned it to be.

since beyoncé and onika had stopped being friends, the two of them had definitely grown apart significantly. beyoncé had hung out with kelly, introducing someone to their duo and the three becoming a trio.

onika, on the other hand, was struggling.

she was alone most of the time, and didn't want to be around anyone but bey. their friendship breakup was the worst for onika. beyonce kept her sane, and she's definitely lost her mind.

onika went the whole summer without talking to beyonce. you'd think, as neighbors, they might even bump into each other. but onika never got a glimpse. so she had no idea what beyonce had going on.

as the year went on, onika was practically dragged into this friend group of boys. not all of them, a few were studs. so onika wasn't totally singled out.

but, she stuck with two of the boys: wayne and aubrey. but everybody calls him drake. the three of them had become three peas in a pod.

onika was heavily influenced by the boys. they were juniors while she was a freshman. so they had a whole lot of experience. with them, she took her first shot, smoked her first blunt and even got up an few shootings. onika didn't care, though. it was thrilling and she loved it.

most would say they weren't good for her but she felt they were perfect. they were book smart and street smart. they always protected her and she was never alone.

but, because of their influence, onika was struggling academically. she never went to class, and if she did, it was because the school officer was there to make sure she stayed.

her mother didn't lose total control of her daughter. carol definitely stayed on her ass, but onika didn't care anymore.

today, onika was in class, but only because miss jones was standing at the door. she escorted her to class again today. it was twelve, which meant onika had to go to her guidance counselor's office soon.

onika dreaded going to her office. but, she had to admit, she helped her a lot.

ONIKA

"she started hanging out with these girls.. and- and it hurt. so, one day, i started hanging out with this kid named wayne. he's the one who introduced me to drugs, so i started smoking that pain away. then, he introduced me to his friend drake and we've been a trio ever since. life changed when beyoncé got tired of me." i looked away from my counselor, shaking my head so my tears wouldn't fall.

"she always promised she never would. but she did.. beyoncé was- is, my whole life. i'd do anything to have her like i did. i fell in love with her. i.. to this day, im always protecting her. these niggas on the street see a pretty face and would ruin her life. i always make sure she's alright. i'd die if anything happened to her.. beyoncé is my whole life and more, man. that's why i do the shit i do." i couldnt help it this time. my tears poured down my face and i threw my head into my hands.

"i'm sure beyoncé still has love for you too. i think you guys should talk.. a good heart to heart." she suggested but i wasnt listening anymore. i was too deep in my misery and thoughts right now.

the bell rang and i had to go back to class. but i was positive id just skip.. again. i stood up and grabbed my things before leaving the office. i made it down the hallway and dapped up wayne.

"aye, i heard about some party that's happening tonight. only reason im bringing it up to you is because i heard the bee is going." he looked around then back to me. "we going? or?"
