Chained by fire

In Hogsmeade Square we met our friends who looked around in panic. „There he is!" Poppy spotted a dark grey dragon above the small village pursued by about twenty poachers on broomsticks.

We watched in shock as they bombarded him with spells and curses. His right wing was hit and petrified.

As if time slowed down, the dragon fell vertically down onto hogsmeade and crashed into the watermill with a deafening squeal.

„We must help him" called Poppy and grabbed Natty and Leander by their capes and pulled them along. Imelda and Sebastian didn't need to be told twice and ran after them.

I looked for Ominis, but a grinning redhead appeared in front of me.

„Wonderful, the hero of hogwarts is here! Now we have nothing to worry about" Garreth smirked down at me while grabbing his wand. He knew exactly how to tease me.

„Would you look at that, if it isn't Garreth begging me to put him in his place" I grinned shortly, but didn't pay further attention to him and left him where he stood and ran after Ominis who tried to follow the others with certain steps. His eyes were wide as if he couldn't comprehend what his wand was showing him.

„Please stay out of reach" I begged when I finally caught up with him on the hill. But he didn't say anything, he just nodded.

„Be careful, Vera" he pleaded and turned his face toward me.

„I will try" I replied, mentally preparing myself for what I saw in front of me.

There was the dragon lying on the green tied up, surrounded by poachers and my friends who were standing in opposition of them. Scowls were exchanged and Poppy was the first to start talking to them.

Cursing, I slipped my coat off my shoulders and took off my scarf. Why on earth did Poppy suddenly think that one could talk to the poachers?

I pulled my wand from my pocket and slid down the hill to join the others. I could describe the moment when my heart had suddenly calmed down and my ears were just buzzing.

Only a feeling rose in my belly up into my chest and kindled my heart. A feeling I hadn't felt in a long time, and to be honest I was glad that it was gone.

But now, slowly putting one foot in front of the other, the feeling pulsated more and more as I got closer to our opponent.

I wanted to kill. My hands were shaking with the desire to take someone's life and I couldn't do a thing about it. I no longer felt any control over my body.

I didn't hear the words Poppy and one of the bandits exchanged. But what he promised didn't exactly sound friendly.

Imelda, Natty, Garreth, Sebastian and Leander all stood in a straight line with Poppy,  their bodys in a position ready to fight.

The dragon screamed deafeningly and tried to defend itself against the metal chains. His red eyes met mine and pain washed over me. That was the moment when I gave up and wanted to give the fire what it asked for.

My feet carried me past Poppy, stopping a step in front of her and I raised my arm, wand aimed at the poachers.

I cocked my head and looked menacingly at my enemies.

„Surrender or suffer the consequences"  I explained to them loud and clear as a final warning. I watched as the poachers laughed derisively.
