May fate be changed

Lost in thought, with books and another brown letter with gold decoration on my arm, I was walking to the Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom.

My path took me up the stairs to Professor Hecat Classroom, where our next lesson would take place.

„Vera!" My name was called loudly, scaring not only the owl that had been resting on my shoulder, but also me. The owl fluttered away and hit me in the face with its wings before I could turn to face the person.

I stopped on the stairs and saw Natty running after me, almost out of breath.

„Finally" she stated and grabbed my arm like she was scared that I might walk away again.

„I wanted to talk to you about what happened last week." We stood close to the railing so that the other students could easily walk past us.

„What-"

„You used dark magic. A curse so bad that most wizards cannot master it." Natty remarked and I realized what this conversation was going for. She was talking about the incident with the poachers when I wiped out our opponents with fiendfyre.

„That may very well be possible" I retorted.

„I am worried about you, where did you learn such magic?" She spoke more quietly and I knew that in her eyes I was close to be labeled as a dark witch.

„Professor Hecat prescribed books from the forbidden section to help me and my kind of magic discharge properly." I told truthfully, but that wasn't what Natty wanted to hear.

„Vera, you can tell me, I am your friend. Are you sure that this new kind of you has absolutely nothing to do with Sebastian?" Natty empathised, while holding both of my arms.

„Sebastian? How on earth did you think of Sebastian? I just told you where I got this curse from." I hissed back.

„Well, we all know that Sebastian is not the traditional good boy. In addition, I am still not very fond of his action last week. To me it makes more than sense that the guy who loves you would make you do things like that." she answered and I swallowed hard.

Love? She thought he would love me?

She must have been delusional, I thought, knowing full well that Sebastian had shown me much darker magic than she ever thought possible, at a time where he had no feelings for me.

„You couldn't be further from the truth." I spoke.

Natty sighed in frustration. She let go of my arms and scratched her forehead.

„Just promise me you won't walk the dark path" she whispered, and I wondered how well my friends actually knew me. Maybe it was better if Natty, an aspiring Auror, didn't know about it all.

„Of course" I smiled.

„Miss Zograf, a word please" At the top of the stairs was Professor Hecat, who called me over with her arms crossed but with a nice smile.

I followed her and left Natty standing on the stairs without a word.

The classroom was still empty as we crossed it and walked up to her office. Gray light fell through the rain-covered windows into the small room that was piled high with books.

On the desk were a variety of things, from parchment, ink, pens, individual curiosities that I couldn't assess and a small blue box with a bronze bow.

And there, behind the table, stood a man with both arms leaning on the surface. His light brown hair was short, nicely combed and his blue eyes met mine.
