39. This Is It

I get up in the morning and take my bath. I'm sad and happy all at the same time. I do love him but what do we do with it?

I get ready and walk to my office. Everyone is at my conference table. "Am I late?"

Daddy looks at me "An hour late."

I nod and sit down. That's weird. I didn't even notice. I must be really distracted. I look up and they are all staring at me. Dipak is looking at me. He looks all concerned.

Thora whispers. "Are you ok?"

"HALT NOW!"

I hear Elkie scream "NADIA. WE NEED YOU!"

I jump up and pull my hair back. "MARY GET ME DIFFERENT CLOTHES!" Then I run out in the hallway and throw my shoes back in.

We run to the medical area and they are swamped. 3 carriages went over a cliff. They are all here. It's not as bad as last time. But it's still a lot.

I walk in and people are getting me ready for surgery in every direction. Servants taking off jewelry. They change my clothes in the hallway. Someone helps me with gloves and I get a veil thrown on my head as I walk in the first room.

I get the rocks out of a couple patients and declare one dead. I clean up and walk towards the desk to grab the next patient and Dipak is sitting on it twirling his sword.

It makes me remember all the other times he sat there like that. I just smile and walk to him. "What are you doing here?" I take the veil off and look at him.

"Brought you all some food for lunch. I know how you all forget to eat. You ok?"

"Yea just a lot of patients. I'll be here until dinner. You ok with that?"

He nods at me and I start picking at the food.

"I am hungry sir. Thank you."

"You're welcome. I'm going back up. Just wanted to check on you."

I step close to him and kiss him on the lips without even thinking about it. Just a kiss where our lips touch and nothing else. He kisses me right back and smiles. "Thank you for checking on me." Then I turn to look at the food again.

I completely freeze. I flip back around and stare at him. He smiles and winks at me. I stand completely still and stare at him some more. "I don't know where that came from."

He just keeps smiling. He gives me 2 kisses like that then kisses my head. "I'll see you at dinner sweetheart."

I nod and he walks off.

After a minute I start shoving food in my mouth again. Then grab the next patient folder. Well that happened.

I take another 3 patients and Dr Cruor gets the last one. I go get cleaned up and get a clean nurse dress on.

I walk into dinner and they are already there. They must have just got here. Foods not here yet. I sit in my spot and lean back. My knee hits Dipaks and I just lift my legs and throw them over his. I throw my head back in the chair. "UGHHHH That was a long day."

I sit like that for a few seconds and I can feel Dipak rubbing my knee. That feels good.

Then momma starts complaining. "We don't slouch at the table. Sit right."

I sit up and cross my legs like normal. I put my foot behind his leg again. He smiles at me and they bring us food.

"I'm going to miss a meeting tomorrow. I need to do the paperwork from that. You can pick the meeting."

"Do it in the morning. Dracul wants to talk about something or other."

I nod and eat.

"You look tired sweetheart."
