I stare with my mouth open. My brain is completely blank and my feet don't work. I didn't even realize he could possibly have parents. What was I thinking?
I go to the chart and check the top of it. De La Nuit. These are Dipaks parents. Why is it so shocking he has parents? Did I think he just appeared out of nowhere?
I check the name again and look at them. Then I check the name again and look at them. This goes on for a few minutes. I sit the chart down. Then I pick it up and check again.
His mom smiles.
His dad laughs. "Well come on. I want to see. He always told us how pretty you are."
I reach up and pull the veil off. They both smile at me.
"My boy isn't wrong. She is stunning Prinna." His moms name is Prinna. I stare at her some more.
"Yes she is. In a bit of shock though."
"How?" Well that's a start I found 1 word. "Why?" That's 2. I'm working my way up.
His mom smiles. "Sit down with me for a bit. I'll go get some of that food you forget to eat."
I fall into a chair and stare at his dad. "I guess I never realized he had parents." His dad busts out laughing. "Why have I never met you?"
"We live about a day by carriage away from here. We don't come often. But we seen you a couple times as you grew up. Never introduced directly. Only seeing you in passing." His mom hands me a plate of food.
I sit it on the table in front of me and shove some in my mouth. I don't even look at it.
"Why do you not live here?"
She shakes her head. "It was just never my home here. My two other boys live in the village we raised them in. I just stayed with them. Don't get me wrong though, I am extremely proud of Dipak. He always did so well. He's a smart and strong boy."
"Why would he not say anything? I didn't even know he had two brothers."
His dad snorts. "Dipak was always jealous of his brothers. They found their mates early and settled down. He wanted that too. It really made a rift between them."
"Are you royalty?"
His dad shakes his head. "Not at all. We raised our boys on a small piece of land. Small home."
His mom smiles. "We all ate enough and had enough luxuries to enjoy life a bit. But we never had much extra money or anything like that. Maybe he was afraid you would look down on him if you found out. We still don't have much. Never been in a castle until now."
I shake my head.
She pushes the food closer to me. "Keep eating. He really is a good boy. Sends me messages all the time. Keeps me filled in on his life. Every now and then he will fly and visit us for a bit. I could tell by what he was saying that he was falling in love with you."
"What did he say?"
His dad laughs. "Had an entire message about your hair color once."
I start to laugh.
Prinna pours me a glass of wine. "He's waited for you for over 1000 years. In all that time, he never fell in love with anyone. He was offered a bonding potion once. He refused it immediately. Said he only wants was his. He'll just wait. When I realized he was falling in love, I knew you would be his mate. The last message we received said he got purple with you and neither of you knew what it meant." His parents both laugh a bit. "Oh that must of been terrible to not know."
"Yea I blew apart a door."
They both laugh some more.
His mom smiles at me again. "This is so different. He waited for so long. All he has ever wanted is you. And you are so young. You can't even feel the bond yet. But you are both so close. It has to be difficult for both of you. And to not have the bond to fall back on. I'm just sorry and happy."
