The next day, Tatsuya is in a practical room to measure the speed of his magic casting with Mizuki watching him casting his spell and it was 940 milliseconds.
"940 milliseconds!" Mizuki said, "You've cleared it, Tatsuya!" She said.

Finally...took me until my third try to clear it, huh?" Tatsuya said.

"B-But that was so unexpected ." Mizuki said, "So you really do struggle in practical skills..."

"Unexpected, haven't I already made incompetence clear numerous times?" Tatsuya asked.

"Well, yes...I did hear you say that...but I thought you were being just modest..." She told him.

"Not sure if I should be saying this myself, but if I were even average in practical skills, I probably wouldn't be in this class." Tatsuya said.

"Yes, you're right if you were good in practical skills though..." Mizuki trailed off, "You'd be way too perfect and not very approachable, I think." She said. "Tatsuya? Don't you feel bitter?" She asked.

"About what?" He asked.

"The fact that even though you really do have talent... you've been evaluated as if you have none at all..." Mizuki said, "Normally, I think that it would make anyone bitter." She said. "But since it doesn't seem to be bothering you that much..." She trailed off.

"Processing speed is also crucial factor." Tatsuya said. "They're not far off the mark labelling me as unskilled." He said.
"But if you were to actually implement it, the truth is you could actually implement it much faster, couldn't you?" She asked.
"What makes you think that?" Tatsuya asked.

"During your first try...Tatsuya, at one point you cancelled your magic sequence and rebuilt it from scratch, didn't you?" Mizuki asked, "Timing-wise, you read the activation sequence and built your first magic sequence simultaneously." She said. "Seeing that got me thinking that for a spell of this level, you could build a magic sequence directly, without using an activation sequence." She said making Tatsuya smile.

"Your perceptiveness is really surprising. You really do have good eyes." Tatsuya said causing Mizuki to gasp slightly.

"Yes with a basic single level system, it's possible to activate a little faster by directly constructing a magic sequence. But that technique can be used only for spells with fewer processes. For example simply moving an egg from the kitchen to the table requires four different processes. But if you were to skip Movement and Stopping processes, the activation is faster but the egg will break." Tatsuya said.

"But when blasting somebody away in a fight, there's no need for you to absorb the impact, so only a single process is needed. Since mine is maximum five different processes, that's probably the most I can do, I think." He said.

"But those processes should probably be plenty for fighting purposes." Mizuki said.

"I'm not studying magic for combat use." Tatsuya said, "My goal is to use magic to develop energy." He said. "To do that I need multiple spell-processes invoked by activation sequences." He said, "That's why I can live with being fairly evaluated for my inferior skills. There's just no way around it."

"That amazing Tatsuya! I really respect you!" Mizuki said, "You can use magic so you became magician... that's the normal way." She said, "But you have your own goals, and that's why you're studying magic for!"
