Noon

I awoke to the sound of someone banging the bedroom door. I thought it was a bad dream but the banging got louder. I could've sworn Ayo and I finally decided to nap, because Ayo has been so busy and he needed his rest. I finally sat up and stared at the digital clock, 12pm! Who the fuck was knocking? I glance at Ayo sleeping peacefully.
He looked so stress, he's been going from one show to another for the past few months, it was beginning to tell on him.

I threw the sheets back and went to the door. "Who is it?"

"Aaliyah! It's Yetunde! Please wake Ayo up, Mommy is complaining of not breathing well!!" Busayo announced, her voice laced with worry.

I quickly went to wake Ayo up, I tapped him a few times before he finally opens his eyes.

Ayo frowns, "Wifey? what's wrong?"

"Yetunde came knocking, she said your mom is complaining of not breathing well."

That got his attention. Ayo threw the sheets back and was out the door in split seconds. I also followed him, we entered the guest room where his mom was staying in. Busayo was trying to talk to her mom while Ayo knelt beside her bed.

"Mommy ki lo she le? (What's wrong mommy?)" Ayo asks holding her hands, he touch her forehead to check her temperature.

"I can't breathe Ayo"

That was all Ayo needed to hear, Ayo stood up and walked out of the room, I followed him outside again. He grabs his phone and called the hospital to tell them he was bringing her in, then he called Roy. Ayo enters the closet and changed in sweats.

"I'm coming with you" I told him.

Ayo merely nodded at me, I quickly changed out of my nightie into Nike matching sweats. I pull my hair into a ponytail and quickly packed a bag for us. While Ayo and his sisters led his mom out of the house into the car, I updated mama G on the situation, then instructed her on what to do incase Amaya wakes up.

The ride to the hospital seemed to take forever, it was super long and sad. Ayo kept assuring his mother that she would fine. The worry evident in his cracking voice, Mrs Balogun was barely breathing properly.

We arrived at the hospital, the doctors met us half way, they strapped Mrs Balogun in and wheeled her into the theater immediately. They started asking questions which his sisters answered. Then they asked us to wait in the lounge room.

I hated hospitals! They always brought back painful memories for me plus the smell of sadness that constantly lingers in the air. I went to sit beside Ayo and took his hands in mine. Ayo glance at me and exhale but doesn't say anything.

I started praying. Praying that nothing happens to his mother. That she came out safe and sound. I prayed for grace, I prayed for strength for Ayo and his family.

Few times I would squeeze Ayo's hands reassuringly and he would squeeze mine back. I know he was worried, everyone was. His sisters were trying so hard not to cry, they had already called the family in Nigeria to give them the update.

Time skips.

10pm

It was already evening, it's been nine hours since we've been waiting and still no words from the doctor. Few nurses came to assure us that they were still in surgery and we should be patient.
