Seoul, Korea, XXI Century
Minutes earlier.
The door had closed behind Kim Dan as Min-Jun locked it. He was the third of the week, and all they needed was for it to work that time. For some reason, whenever they send men they never came back right, or at least had a bit of amnesia and the mission was never fulfilled, presumably from the sick lifestyle they had after they left the military. However he had a feeling things would be different with Kim Dan: He was a soldier, although skinnier now than how he was in his military days, he could mentally handle the trip for sure.
―Are you sure he'll be okay? ―Asked the doctor as she took off her face mask, looking at the contraption where Dan was waiting for something to happen.
―He'll be just fine, Dr. Park. We just have to wait for the machine and all of this will be done. ―Said the scientist, walking up towards his companion who was silently observing the whole scene.
―Why not just send a soldier? One with actual experience? ―She asked, a slight tone of desperation sweeping into her voice.
―Chae-Yeong-ya, you know the drunk soldiers in debt are cheaper... ―Answered Min-Jun, amused with doctor's worried attitude. ―Why are you so worried? He's probably lying about the uncle, or the grandma... You know they lie all the time. ―Min-Jun pulled out a cigarette, much to Chae-Yeong's and Tanaka's dislike ―Also, we've done this at least a dozen times.
―Min-Jun Sunbae, I'm just... worried this time. ―Chae-Yeong looked at him when he turned on the cigarette and squinted her eyes, shaking her head. ―Those things are going to kill you.
―You are going to kill me if you keep looking at me like that...
―What the fuck are you doing, lunatic?
Min-Jun's compliment was interrupted when Dr. Tanaka hollered at the other one, clearly something was up. Dr. Jung pushed the smaller one towards the wall, incapacitating him while he intervened with the data just introduced to the machine. Min-Jun immediately got his gun out, and shot to the roof as the machine got turned on.
―Chae-Yeong! Take Kim Dan out of there! ―He commanded as he ran towards the scientist, who was typing on the keyboard different codes in extreme speed, knowing his time was running out. Min-Jun ran towards him, pointing his gun at his head. ―The hell you think you're doing? You're compromising the mission!
Dr. Jung stood in his spot, and simply smiled.
―Long live, the People's Democratic Republic of Korea. ―He stood there proudly and pressed the last button in the table, listening as Chae-Yeong tried desperately to bust the lock.
―Idiot! ―Min-Jun hollered, shooting at his shoulder as he hurried to push him away from the table.
He needed reinforcements, but more important than that, he needed to get Dan out of there. He ran towards Chae-Yeong, trying to help her bust it when a noise stopped him in his tracks. It was loud, not like when the machine was working normal. Min-Jun grabbed the doctor by her arms and hid her behind a desk covering her with his body, understandably nervous of what was going to happen in the room once it all passed. A loud thud was heard, and then just silence. Min-Jun looked over the desk, staring in both a mixture of awe and shock the spot where the machine used to be, now empty. Chae-Yeong looked too, letting out a shriek of horror. This had never happened before, and the time it did it had to be when Kim Dan was inside. Min-Jun got up from his hiding spot, running towards the control panel trying to understand what the hell went wrong while Dr. Tanaka was trying to get himself up. The traitor simply observed as his plan evolved.
