A week later

Dan was nervous.

Last night's sleep was awful. All he could dream was that shadowy figure of a man in an old and dark room, sitting ominously in front of a desk as he wrote something. He could tell it was in Joseon, given the antique aesthetic of the place and the clothes both of them were wearing resembled those of his last day there. He was at the other side of the room, looking at the parchment paper in front of him, but whenever he tried to approach him and see what he's writing his feet seemed to be stuck to the ground immobilizing him, and all he could listen was that same voice he heard in the shadows.

"―I'm just writing things, Doc."

Then that man usually got up and walked out of the room with the paper on his hands, leaving him alone. He always woke up there, unable to reach the door and unable to read whatever he was writing.

He had talked about it with his therapist and although she said that dreams were often our subconscious mind bringing up things hidden in our thoughts, he couldn't help but wonder what it could mean. Not even the internet searches gave some clarification to that projection, always giving him results he wasn't searching for.

He quickly got ready with his hospital attire, since he would be heading straight to the hospital as soon as this session was over as he's still working there until the formal termination of his contract was done. As he drank some yogurt, he quickly checked his work bag.

His bag was prepared with everything he needed, from his curriculum vitae to some of the oils he had prepared at home. He didn't knew much about his future client beside the fact that he was a world champion at the MMA, and that some previous therapists had told him to exhaustion to not show up. They couldn't stop talking about his horrible attitude, how difficult it was to treat him and the fear he imposed with how big and tall he stood. It's not that Dan was scared or anything, but he was nervous of messing up this amazing opportunity to not work at another hospital again.

He had spoken with Namwook sporadically throughout the week after the disaster with the hospital's director, and even if he seemed like a very charming individual, he knew the real deal was the mysterious fighter he was yet to meet. Namwook had proposed a very big paycheck just in case the Champion, whose alias is "The Emperor", decided to hire him. With a paycheck that big Dan knew he couldn't fumble the best work opportunity after the hospital.

He looked at the time on his phone, and if he had left at least five minutes ago, he would be on time. He quickly grabbed his bag and caressed the beads that never left his side, taking a deep breath before stepping out of the door.

He sprinted out of the subway station once he reached the place he needed, trying to get to the gym as fast as possible. The train had presented a couple of delays due to some undisclosed issues in some other stations, but he couldn't be late. Not today. He was running through the sidewalk, evading people and holding tight to his bag so he wouldn't hit anyone, feeling his heart pumping all the way to his ears. Why is he so out of his mind today?

He didn't even felt the huge man hitting him in his shoulder, almost making him fall after he lost his balance. He yelped, hanging from a wall to not hit the ground while that man kept on running in the same route.

I'm so sorry, are you okay, Sir?! ―Dan hollered.

Watch where you're going, idiot! ―An angry voice answered back, but he never looked at him, just sprinted forward.

Dan shook his head before going back to his same route, feeling an eerie sensation that he has heard that voice somewhere. To ease his mind, he decided it was the same voice his brain always heard calling him in the middle of the street or in the middle of the night when he was hiding from the reality in his dreams. That's the only reasonable answer.
