Dan woke up early in the morning, hugging himself tightly as he felt an empty space next to him. Jaekyung wasn't there, and he assumed he must've been outside doing his nobility duties. Not only has the therapy been working, but the constant lessons from the village's doctor were helping him too, even if at the beginning Dan thought they was useless compared to his modern knowledge.
His nightmare was running nonstop all over his head, and even if Jaekyung had joined him a while later last night, he couldn't sleep for hours. They were already in winter and, if that book was correct, Jaekyung was about to die. But there's no way he could allow that, not if there was something to do about it. He hasn't noticed anything weird within the servants or the guards, not a single threat, and although it was known that the lord wasn't the most popular person around, he had no known enemies that would dare to kill him in such a cowardly manner.
But the book... he knows what he read. Is there anything he can do to rewrite history? There must be, it's the main reason doctor Tanaka planned sending people to the past, to do exactly that, so if he believed that changing the past could change the future, he would surely do that if it meant Jaekyung could live.
He stood up, looking around the room as he stretched a little. Yes, he was totally alone. In a corner he saw his new clothes, and next to them he saw the old ones. On top of those the device rested peacefully, not having being turned on in weeks after it ran out of battery and inadvertently left him trapped there.
Although at first he thought it was a curse upon himself, he ended up learning to appreciate what he had, where he was now, and who he was with. It was the least he could do in his position, and sleepily wondered where Jaekyung was. He stood up, hurried to get some warm clothes on, and approached the device quickly, noticing it was in the same condition as last time. There was no reason for it to be any different now, and it wasn't something that saddened him anymore.
He left it there, put on his coat and started to walk out of the room, planning to head over the kitchen to help the ladies out with the breakfast for the lord and the rest of the servants. A hat was suddenly placed on top of his head from behind, and Dan looked back almost immediately, still startled by his dream of the night before. But what he found was the lord looking at him in the eyes, keeping a serene position and facial expression.
―It's cold this morning. You should keep your ears warm unless you want them to fall off.
―My apologies, my lord... Thank you for the hat.
―My pleasure... where were you going?
―Help with breakfast, is everything okay?
―I guess so... go straight to the kitchen and stay there. Don't talk with anyone you don't know, got it?
―I... yes, my lord. I understand. ―He nodded and saw him walk away, intrigued by his sudden change. He resembled more of what he was in the early days of meeting him instead of the latest facet he had shown, but he could only imagine the worst.
He walked towards the kitchen in complete silence, feeling the warmth on his ears thanks to the hat given to him as he looked down to the ground. He couldn't be tired of him already, right? Was it because he lasted more than the other guys? Was there something left to do now if he decided he didn't wanted to see him anymore? He gulped, feeling a sense of dread looming over him as he stood still in the snowy courtyard, looking around to see if Kyong was there.
'Idiot, how did you forgot he's out of town?'
True. He was probably just overthinking it. He walked towards the kitchen once again, and as he was about to open the door he was intercepted by a big hand who took the handle and opened it.
