Dan sat in front of the lord, looking as he poured some tea in their cups, and waited for the doctor to take a sip or a bite of their food, but Dan wasn't doing any of it. He looked at it in numbness, wondering who the girl he wanted to marry was. He hadn't heard of a woman, and the gossiping of the servants never said anything of a girl ever. What if he was just a pit stop while she was ready?
Doubts ran through his head in a way they haven't in weeks, shifting his eyes between his hands and the hot cup of tea in front of him. His eyes were itching with tears, and he couldn't dare to look up even if Jaekyung was already doing so.
'You actually believed he was sincere... how stupid'
―What do you want to talk about? ―The doctor talked, looking straight at the table
The lord took a sip from his tea, paying attention to his doctor. ―I have to go to Hanyang and deliver something. It should only take me a couple of days.
Dan nodded to that, sipping from his cup in an attempt to clear his throat for once.
―I know. And I understand why you're doing it.
Jaekyung coughed, choking on his tea once those words came out of the doctor's mouth. 'He what?!' his brain screamed. He tried to calm himself down, looking around as he held onto the table.
―What do you know? Who told you? Was it...? ―He groaned angrily, wanting to kill his cousin with his bare hands. ―Kim Dan, I wanted to tell you in a different way...
―But what? You wanted to make me look like a fool for longer? Keep me in the dark about this?
― Wait, what exactly did he told you? ―Jaekyung looked at his man a little confused tilting his head to the side and sat up in his spot.
―He told me about what you're doing in the Capital! Your plans there... Look, it's not my place to feel upset but I... I... ―He felt his throat itching with a sob and the tears fell down once again.
Jaekyung looked at Dan surprised, standing up almost immediately and going to his side, kneeling and hugging him softly even if he was trying to push him away. Jaekyung didn't really understood what the fuss was about now. Did he told him...? If Hak-Kun actually told him, why is he upset? Why is he crying? How did his cousin even knew it was him? Was he really that obvious?
―Dan... what's the problem?
―Just tell me, is that woman the one who makes you happy? Because your cousin said... he said... ―Dan wept, trying to calm himself down but the tears just rolled down by themselves.
―Dan, what did my cousin told you? ―Jaekyung worriedly asked, separating the doctor for a couple of inches just so he could look at him in the eyes, cleaning his tears with his sleeves.
Dan gulped as he looked into his eyes, trying to control his tears for longer before they took over him once again and the lump in his throat forbade him from speaking any more. He looked at Jaekyung, giving up and hugging him strongly as he soaked his chest in tears, trying to explain his distress.
―He said you were going to propose to a girl... that that's the purpose of your trip to Hanyang and that he had to know who would be the mother to your heir. ―The doctor sobbed softly, trying to compose himself before he kept talking. ―And I know we've been together for a short time but I... I really feel upset. He even asked me if I knew who she was but you haven't said anything and neither have the servants...
Jaekyung listened, paying close attention to his doctor as he spoke in between sobs, hugging him as he thought of what to respond. He couldn't believe his cousin could've been that much of a gossip to ask Dan for a name. At least that meant he had no idea on who he was intending to marry, but now he had a big misunderstanding to solve. He held him close to his body, sitting him on his lap as he caressed his back like he's used to whenever they cuddled, taking a deep breath to calm his own nerves.
