"We can make spears out of the brooms." Raven says.
"Spears?" The guy looks surprised and intrigued. "How exactly are we going to make these spears?" He asks. Raven notices several brooms stacked in a corner of the janitors closet.
Raven grabs a broomstick, she pulls out her makeshift scissor knife from the holster and starts shaving off wood from the broom tip. "I'm making the brooms tip pointy sharp, like this." She says. The guy watches her with a sense of admiration as she demonstrate how she's turning the broomstick into a spear. It seems to come naturally to her. He is amazed at how quickly she's fashioned a spear.
"Wow... that's really impressive." He says.
"Thanks" Raven says, smiles softly. She hands him the spear and grabs another broomstick and starts to make it pointy sharp like the other one. He takes the spear and thanks her profusely. While she continues to work on the second spear, the guy walks over to her and stands by her side.
"What now?" He asks, looking expectantly.
"Once I'm done with this spear we can escape this closet, I'm going to head to the cafeteria to pack a bag of supplies before I leave the school. I don't know when we might find food again easily without getting attacked by a zombie. You can stay with me if you want? I'm going to go to my uncles up north he told me about. It's secluded in the mountains with a fence so no zombies should be there." Raven says as she finish's making the second spear. "Yeah, I think I'll stay with you," he says. "I've heard about those secluded areas in the mountains that are supposed to be safe from zombies. It sounds like a good idea to head there. Besides, you seem like the best chance I have of surviving this apocalypse." He smiles at her.
Raven laughs and ties her curly black hair into a messy ponytail. The guy smiles at her and watches as she gets ready to leave the janitors closet. She is wearing what she usually wears on a hot spring day. Her outfit consists of black jean shorts and a green tank top, and a black jean bomber jacket over it. She almost looks ready for combat. Raven can almost feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins.
"Ready to go?" Her companion asks.
"Yep" she says in reply.
The two of them slowly open the closet and step into the hallway. They are both holding their weapons ready. With an ounce of courage, Raven walks out into the school and look around to see if any zombies are about. She notices the coast is clear and no zombies seem to be lurking in the hallways. She takes a deep breath of relief and starts to walk forward, heading to the cafeteria.
"I don't see any zombies." The guy says. "Maybe we got lucky?"
"Don't think that just yet... they are probably lingering somewhere. Also what is your name it was rude of me not to ask?" Raven says. The guy looks down at her, smiling. "I'm Jake," he says. "And it's okay. You're right. We shouldn't let our guard down just yet. For all we know, those zombies could be hiding just around the corner." He then turns to her and asks, "What's your name?"
"Raven, Raven Hawkins." She says, smiling up at him.
Raven and Jake enter the cafeteria cautiously, their weapons ready. They peer around the corner and see... No zombies?! It looks like they made some luck, and the cafeteria is empty. Raven smiles at Jake and heads into the cafeteria. Jake follows along and watches as she walks ahead.
"Raven... that's a beautiful name." He says. "Is it short for something?" He asks.
"Thanks... no it's not short for something, I've always wanted a nickname but with my name you can't have one" she laugh softly. Raven starts walk into the cafeteria heading to the kitchen.
