Raven walks outside, heading to the college student parking lot for her car to drive towards her mom's old horse ranch to find the horses that she can ride up to her uncles. Jake follows along just behind her, holding his newly acquired bow and arrows in his hand. She smiles at him as they walk.
"What's your horses name?" He asks her. "And thank you for offering to let me ride with you. I'm sure the horse will be a lot better than walking all the way up into the mountains."
"My horse is Nya, the stallion is named Eros." She replies, while walking around her car and opening the driver side door and getting in.
"Nya and Eros, huh?" Jake asks. "Well, I can't wait to meet them." He says, as he opens the passenger door and gets into the vehicle with her. She starts up the car and begins driving. "So are these horses trained? I mean, are they used to having people ride them?" Jake asks.
"Yes, the stallion was my 4 year old brothers, my horse was trained by me since we got her when I was 16. She was a wild horse before, now she lets little kids ride her." Raven says. Raven drives along, heading towards her mom's horse ranch.
"That's amazing!" Jake replies. "I can't wait to meet your horses and to eventually ride them up to your uncle's place." He smiles.
She laughs softly, "We can probably hook the horse trailer to my car with them in it, and travel as far as we can before we get stoped on the road by a car block, then ride the horses the rest of the way." She says.
"Sounds like a plan to me!" Jake says. "That way, we can have plenty of supplies if we bring the horses and the horse trailer with us." He chuckles, "I can't believe this is actually happening." He says. "In the beginning of this day, I never imagined that I would be getting ready to go into the apocalypse with someone..." He smiles softly at her.
Raven laughs, "I never thought the zombie apocalypse would happen." She says. Raven and Jake follow the dirt road which leads to her mother's horse ranch. She pulls up into it and stops the car. The ranch looks peaceful and tranquil, with horses running around in the pasture and various structures near to the ranch. It's an idyllic sight to behold.
"Wow..." Jake says. "This place is amazing!" He looks around in awe. He then looks over at her with a curious look.
"So, where do we find the horses?" He asks. She whistles and her horse "Nya" comes running up to her. The stallion, "Eros" follows her closely. Raven smiles as she pets her horse and looks up to Jake who is by her side.
"Here they are." she explains. "These are the horses we'll ride up to my uncle's place." She says as she strokes her horses mane and continues petting it.
"Stay here with them will you... I'm just going to get the horse trailer attached to my car." Raven says as she walks up to her horse. She pets it gently and turns around to leave to hook up the horse trailer to the car. Jake looks at her horses and pets them as she had done. He looks around the ranch and listens to the sounds of nature. "It's so peaceful here." He says to himself. "Almost as if nothing's wrong outside of this place." He smiles at the horses.
20 minutes later Raven returns to find Jake petting Anya and Eros, laughing whenever they nudge him with their faces. She walks up to them smiling.
"Alright I'm done hooking it up, I also put two chickens in the cars backseat in their cage so we can have eggs, I put the horses saddles and reigns in the car trunk. I grabbed the saddles that allows you to carry stuff. I also grabbed a bag of sanitary supplies, for a shower and stuff. I grabbed a bag of medicine and medkit, too. Do you need anything?" She asks.
"Sounds like you got most of everything. But can you grab a few more pairs of clothes? I only have what's on my back and I feel like we could run into trouble in these clothes." He says. "Other than that, I think you got everything else." He smiles at Raven and looks to the trailers attached to her car.
"The horses can go in the trailers, right?" He asks.
"I have my dads clothes but they won't fit you, he has a very short stature." She laughs. "we can stop at a small store I know on the way to stock up on fresh clothes."
Jake laughs along with Raven at the idea of putting on her dad's small clothes.
"Yeah, better not put those on." He smiles. "Let's stop at the small store you mentioned and grab some fresh clothes for both of us. You said it wasn't far from here?" He asks. Raven confirms this with a nod and they both get in the car and begin driving once more. She starts up the car once more and heads down the road, continuing the long journey that they have to make to her uncle's place in the mountains. They ride in relative silence, both Raven and Jake lost in their thoughts as they drive along. This adventure is already quite surreal enough, but to do it with someone else, makes it that much more real. As they approach the small store, Raven pulls into the parking lot and parks the car. She turns to Jake and smiles softly.
"Alright, let's grab some clothes here." She says.
