"Lin! Come on. It's time for bed." The voice of her father called out. The girl shouted back "okay" and turned off her reading light. Her heavy head hit the soft pillow and she was out. Her eyes closed and she slipped into the world of dreams. She slept soundly. Her father came up to get some rest. It had been a week since she lost her adoptive mother. She often heard her father crying during the night. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't help him."I can bring her back. She doesn't have to stay dead. All you have to do is call her name." She heard a voice say. Her father then called out her mother's name. She came back to the world. Then there was silence. The whole house had no noise. She heard the creak of her door. Her father walked in. He saw that she was bleeding. She had scratch marks on her back, and they often bled. She would scratch her back raw in her sleep. He touched the blood. In a flash of light, he was gone. Nothing remained of him. Lin awoke to the light fading. She slid out from under the covers and opened the door to her brother's room as she often did when she couldn't sleep. She saw his lifeless body still tucked up in bed. She guessed that he was just asleep. She shook him and he did not stir. She ran out of the room and into her parents room only to find her dad not there. She ran back into her brother's room and shook him harder. She picked up his arm and let it drop. She started to cry, fear and worry starting to set in. She slapped him across the face. Nothing. She bit him. Still nothing. She cried harder now. She was alone. "Hello little girl. Aww now. There's no need to cry. I can bring him back. Would you like that?" She looked up at the figure in front of her through bleary eyes and nodded. He said all she had to do was say his name. "Are you sure this won't hurt anyone? If it will I won't do it." She said. "Don't worry. This won't hurt anyone. Just call out his name." He said. "Kahyal!" She cried out. She ran over to her brother's new body and hugged it tight. "Lin! What happened? " He asks. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to be alone."She said, still crying. "You idiot! You made me into an akuma! I curse you!" He cried out. He pinned her necklace that she always wore to bed against her chest. The metal heated up so much that it burnt her. She screamed in agony. "Kill her." The man said. "No. Lin, run! I don't want to!" He raised his arm-like blade and cut her forehead. Lin cried out in pain once more, blood spilling down and forcing her to close her right eye. She faced the akuma, touched her forehead and shook her hand. Her blood spattered onto the body and he was freed. "Thank you. " He said. She turned to face the man. "You lied to me. You said no one would get hurt. He was hurt and I was hurt." She cried. "Get out of this house and never return!" She screamed. He disappeared in a puff of smoke. She was alone.

Lin went downstairs and opened the medical drawer. She fished around inside until she found a patch of gauze and the medical tape. She placed a patch over her open wound and taped it into place. She went to the mirror and saw the blood that had ran down her face. It wasnt too bad but it still made her stomach turn. She ran to the bathroom and washed her face. With the blood gone, she went into her brother's room. His body was still there. It felt so cold, all his life and warmth had been drained. She sobbed afresh. The tears burned down her face, splashing down onto her brother. He may not have been her biological brother, but he still loved and cared for her. After a while, she called an old family friend. "Hello?  Who's this?" The voice on the other side asked. "It's Lin. I need some help. M-my brother... m-my daddy... there gone. I..." Lin started, only to hear the voice say, "I'll be there right away. Give me a minute, okay?" Lin waited for him to turn up. He arrived in a complete state. His hair was messy and not slicked back how he normally had it. "I'm sorry." Lin said. He saw the patch on her head and reached forward to touch it. Lin hissed as he applied the slightest pressure to it. He pulled his hand back and pulled her close. She hugged him tight, fearing that he would disappear too. He let her go and took her into the living room. She sat down on a chair and he squatted down in front of her. "Lin, what happened? Where's John? Where's Kahyal?" He asked. "I don't know where daddy is, but Kahyal... he's-" Lin tried to say that he was dead but, she couldn't say it. She didn't want to accept it. "He- *sniff* he-" She tried again. Fat tears fell from her eyes. He wiped away Lin's tears and went upstairs to see the body of Kahyal in his bed. He tried to wake the boy but to no avail. He went back down to Lin, seeing why she had called him. "Mr Benjamin, what's gonna happen now?" She asked. Mr Benjamin, or Benny to his friends, ran his fingers through his hair. He didn't know what to do. "Um, Lin, where's your dad?" He asked. Lin shrugged her shoulders. He sighed. "Did you hear anyone come in, or anyone leave before I came here?" He asked,  trying to gather as much information as he could to work out what to do. "No." She said. He nodded. "Okay. I've got to make a quick call, and then we're going to go to my place to have breakfast. Sound good?" He asked. Lin nodded. They waited for whoever Benny called to turn up. He pulled out a deck of cards and played a game of snap with Lin and taught her to play different games like 21, rummy and poker. They were into the third round of poker when the police came to the house. They asked a lot of questions and Lin only gave the answers she knew. Benny gave as much information as he could. Then, after grabbing Lin a few changes of clothes, they went to Benny's and had breakfast. A few weeks later, they returned to the house. They tried to keep it running but it was too much money and work. Lin went to the orphanage only because Benny had no real house to speak of. But, they were always in contact.
