It was late into the night and I was just getting ready for bed. Shrugging on a night shirt as I heard my back door open and slam closed. I walk over to the ledge and peer over to see Judas entering the living room.
"Beau?" He calls out.
"Up here." I say and he turns looking up at me. He climbs the stairs to my room as I make myself comfortable on the bed. Snuggling under the blankets, as Judas's head pops up from the floor. Coming into my room, breathing hard and covered in sweat.
"What happened to you?" I ask.
"I went to scout the area. You didn't tell me you had bought more land. And that more people had moved in." He says placing his hands on his hips.
"I did say Mila and Vadim was bunking here."
"You didn't tell me the entirety of their kingdom came with them." He says. "Beau this is a lot of people." He says.
"I know."
"I also didn't know about the under ground garden." He says. "Connected with an underground tunnel system that's actively being expanded."
"The winters here are brutal." I reply.
"You also didn't tell me you'd begin combat training tomorrow." He says and there's a sudden seriousness in his voice I'd never heard from him before. I take it in stride and keep calm.
"Are you worried?"
"Am I...well...yes, a little bit. I think I should be." He says trying to remain firm.
"Don't be." I say.
"Cassie told me you built a weapons barge, and that you bought guns and a fuck ton of bullets." He continues.
"That information is true." I say smoothing out the blanket over my legs.
"Where did you get the guns?" He asks, his arms crossing over his chest.
"A few old contacts that Thomas gave me, don't be worried right now, okay? Please? I just want to sleep." I say and throw myself back on the mattress.
"Beau we need to talk about this." He walks over sitting on the bed and pulling back up. "I'm not stupid, where did you get the damn guns?"
"Judas!" I shout, letting my anger spike but quickly subsiding it, running my hands over my face as I sigh. He removes his hand from my wrist and sits there quietly, watching me with a wary expression.
"I apologize, I don't mean to yell." I mutter. "But I just can't deal with the questions right now. We got here, it took forever to get the ministers settled in. I'm dealing with a whole bunch of business shit along with pack shit, I'm already behind on so much paper work and I can't find MaryAnne. I just need to sleep! Please! I'll answer all of your questions in the morning but Judas I'm exhausted and I can't keep up right now, I just can't."
Judas grabs me again and this time pulls me into his lap. Holding me to him as I breath in his scent. The smell of pine overwhelming me.
"It's okay." He breathes out. "I got you."
I let myself sink into him as my eyelids feel heavy. Letting them close as I rest my chin on his shoulder, wrapping my legs around his waist as I weasel my arms underneath his and wrap them around him.
I let myself stay in his arms, no itch to leave, no instinct to throw his hands off me. I wanted them there. I wanted his comfort.
The next morning came and I was out of the house already, leaving Judas snoring peacefully in bed. This time dressing in black loose pants and a sports bra. Holding a staff that Thomas used to train me with. I can't count how many times he whacked me in the head with this thing.
