"He's not that stupid. He can't be!" Judas huffs in bewildered annoyance. The sexual frustration I feel through his part of the bond suppressing itself, as a whole new wave of problems crashed to the surface.
I don't think he is either. But he is that bold. Judas huddles together with some of the other lycans, no doubt trying to figure out what strategy to settle with.
Other pack mates of mine drifting around nearby, no doubt hearing the news. Cassie struggling to keep up beside me as I cut through the crowd and head to the border. Heads turning watching me pass without a word. Cassie broke the silence.
"What are you going to do?" She asks.
"I'm going to see what he wants." I say casually.
"But what if we don't have what he wants?" She asks her tone laced with urgency.
"Then I will kill him. Like I've been saying this whole time."
"And what about unforeseen circumstances? Alpha," she grabs my arm stopping me. "He's there alone. There's no one else with him. What ever scouts were lingering close by were sent home."
"No doubt by the fact that you broke in with Vadim and rescued a bunch of people. And if he's there alone, better we figure out why he's so confident." I say and turn back on my path ahead. Dragging my bare feet through the grass and mud, hiking my way to the border with no urgency in my stride.
I finally saw him once I reached the peak of the subtle hill overlooking the wide grass plains. Showing nothing but the horizon of the trees in the far distance. Harald standing not too far from the tree line.
Finally reaching him, I notice something odd.
He didn't have a heartbeat. Dressed in an ostentatious fashion that showed he definitely raided the elven jewelry vault.
"Hmm."
"What?" He smiled. "Have I surprised you? Is it the diamonds?"
"Either you turned yourself into a vampire, or you've found your way to magic and you're astral projecting."
"The latter." He admits with an air of arrogance polluting it. "It was difficult. But after your little break in the other day and quite a bit of digging we found our answer."
"Well, this speeds things up for you doesn't it. If you've already learned astral projection who knows what you'll end up doing." I say with fake sincerity.
"I'm talented. So it looks like we'll find out." He takes a pause before speaking again. "I know there's a gathering of alpha's happening in a couple of days."
"And?" I prod.
"And, I will be making an appearance, ruffling some feathers and such but I want to...extend a hand. I want you to join me." He dramatically places a hand on his chest bowing slightly to me.
"I think you might be high on magic. I definitely know that's a thing." I shake my head almost amused at his audacity.
"My intangible state may be a trick but my offer isn't. I'm serious." He says.
"Dear god fuck me. Why?" I ask more exasperated than intrigued.
"Because while I've been able to sway other packs to my side you are the only pack that isn't under the crowns rule. On top of that, the growing numbers of your pack alone can rival mine, and several other Alpha's. So what could I offer you?"
"Not shit." I answer for him but he keeps going.
"I disagree. All the power you could wish for. Every Alpha at your feet. Together we could over throw the lycans and their king, we could bring the peace our kind truly deserves. Instead of waiting for another war. And all access to magic the elves hide away for themselves." He sounds genuine, like he really believes the bullshit he's serving me.
