"Care, you need to breathe. Calm down, it'll be fine." Kai said. I stared at her incredulously where Izzy's phone was sat up.
Calm down
calm down?!
I'm freaking the fuck out. I've never been this nervous for anything we've done but it feels different this time and it's making me freak out.
"Calm down?! How! How am I supposed to be calm!" I yelled, looking my outfit over in the mirror hanging on her door. I could hear Toby talking to someone upstairs but I was too freaked out to listen or care.
"Care, breathe. It's gonna be fine. You're going to dinner and sit on the beach. You've done it a million times before." Izzy reiterated. "I'll give you a minute to breathe, okay? I promise, you'll be fine. Let's go say hi to people, Kai!"
I moved out of her way as she walked out of the room and down the hallway. I took a deep breath, shaking the anxiety out of my limbs.

Izzy walked back in with a smile. I didn't hear the question she asked but I certainly heard Kai's response.
"You're friend Jack is hot, just not hotter than me. Wait, what was the question?" She asked. I laughed, it seemed to help my nerves and made me feel better.
"Bloody wanker, I asked if you thought Toby looked okay." Izzy laughed.
"Oh, yeah he looked great! Jack though, woo!" Kai joked. I laughed even harder just. before walking out.
"Are you ready to go?" I asked, walking down the hallway. The minute my eyes landed on him, my stomach stopped clenching and my anxiety drifted away. He was sporting a black t-shirt with a red flannel and some ripped jeans.
He looked really good.
"Yeah." He said with a smile, his voice a little shaky. He helped support me as I put on my shoes and before we knew it, we were sat at our table.
"What were you thinking of getting?" Toby asked after looking at the menus. He was holding my hand from across the table and I swear my heart couldn't beat faster than it was.
"Probably the spaghetti or something." I said with a smile.
It took the waiter half an hour to even greet us and take our drink orders. We just ordered our food with it. We made small talk as we waited for everything else. Our drinks and food came out at the same time. An hour after we ordered it. I'm not one to complain, but what kind of service is this? It's quite laughable to be honest. Eventually we were able to leave and I had to keep from laughing.
"Well, that was a bust." I said, laughing quietly. We were walking down the street to the pier while the sun was setting. It was quite beautiful.
"Definitely not how I wanted that to go." He laughed back. I could hear how upset he genuinely was, but It really wasn't a big deal to me. I just got to spend time with my favorite person. That's all that mattered to me.
"It's okay, we still have the boardwalk and the rock beach." I said with a smile. He smiled back at me and my heart warmed. Conversation was minimal, but I didn't complain. I just laid my head on his shoulder as we watched the sunset from our view between buildings.
"The sunset's very beautiful." I said quietly.
"You're even more beautiful, Caroline." He whispered back. I smiled as we made it to the boardwalk and just walked. Once the sun was down, we went and sat on the beach. It was comfortable and amazing and the view was breathtaking.
I don't think I'd trade this moment for literally anything else.
"I like you." He whispered to me, laying his head on my shoulder. I smiled, leaning my head on his.
"I like you too."
"Good, good." he responded. I could basically feel his anxiety. He was stressing over nothing, really. He doesn't even have to properly ask me out for me to say yes, I'm already his. There's no one else I could want.
"Toby, may I kiss you?" I asked, grabbing his hand and turning to face him. "Have the feeling you're too nervous to ask and someone once told me I should live in the moment."
"Yeah, yeah I like that idea." He said and I didn't waste any time, knowing I'd chicken out if I thought it over. The kiss wasn't much of anything special, but it meant the world to me.
"So are we girlfriends or what? fuck, i mean boyfriends. fucking hell! i mean boyfriend and girlfriend." He stumbled over his words adorably.
God I like him too much for my own good.
"Yeah, Toby. We're boyfriend and girlfriend." I laughed out, pulling his body closer to mine. We just sat there, staring at the water in silence. I checked my watch after a while, realizing it was getting late.
"We should head back, Toby, cmon." I said, standing up and extending a hand to him. He grabbed it and we walked back to Will's house nudging each other and laughing the entire way. I loved how opposite our relationship can be. One minute we're joking and laughing but the next can be complete silence and we don't mind either. We bask in each other's presences no matter what we're doing. Whether I'm reading and he's just playing with my hair or we're running around the street like heathens and screaming like banshees.
That's how I know he's my safe place; because Izzy, Asterin, and I always had that dynamic. We can be loud but we also know how to be sitting comfortably in silence.
"This is the best I can do with the formality of kissing a girl at her doorstep." He joked, leaning down and kissing my forehead gently. I almost crumbled against the door, let me tell you. "See you in the morning, Care."
I smiled and walked inside. I literally could barely hold myself up, let alone speak to him.
"How'd it go?!" Izzy asked me immediately. Will was sitting on the bed with her, his head on her shoulder with a small smile. His eyes were red and I knew what they'd just been talking about, but he was equally as excited to hear.
"We're dating!" I said, smiling widely. Izzy squealed and I giggled. I felt like a little kid again. it felt nice to be so care free.
"No fucking way! I'm so fucking happy for you, Care!" Izzy yelled. She started doing her excited stim and I laughed.
"Finally." Will said with a smile and a small sigh of relief. "I thought I was gonna have to talk to him about emotions."
"No, no. It was really adorable actually." I said with a smile.
"Tell me everything." Izzy said. I sat on the bed and explained everything to her.
