Marcus swings his arm, wrapping it around my shoulders as we progress outside the headquarters' primary building, "You did well today! You even got targets on the last conveyor belt!"
I smile as he dumps some of his weight on me, "I have you to thank for that. Thanks for lending me your compound bow. It was getting annoying being the only one on the left side."
"Well, why don't you just switch to compound bows instead of crossbows then?", Gwen inquires as we make our way into the parking lot. "You definitely have better control over it. I, furthermore, recommend it." She glances at the silver-haired male beside her, "What do you think regarding this matter?"
"He can use whatever he finds convenient in not only operating but also transporting.", Logan answers in a forthright manner, sounding somewhat miffed and keeping his eyes on his car while approaching it. He swings open the door to the driver's seat and only then, does he meet my gaze, "But it's best to master a range of weapons. Who knows when the right to choose gets snatched from you?" With that, the hunter slides into his seat.
I feel a frown tugging on my lips. When I accepted Marcus' bow, I spotted the irked expression on Logan's face. His foul mood is still lingering, causing me to wonder if I made a bad decision. Marcus quickly bends and knocks on the passenger seat's window, prompting Logan to lower the tainted glass down. "Are we all riding in your car or should I retrieve mine?", the blonde male asks.
"Get yours out. We won't have to return to headquarters afterward.", the latter answers in a frigid tone and inserts the car keys. I chew my lower lip as I glance between the three of us. The brunette points at herself and then at Logan's car, silently asking if she will be riding along with him like she did earlier.
Logan didn't come to my place today to pick me up. I came with Marc instead.
Marcus shrugs before nudging me and gesturing to his car. I nod and follow him to his vehicle. I occupy the passenger seat and the male steers us out of the parking lot. Our cars emerge alongside each other and we look out of my window to watch Logan. "The café?", my friend asks and the latter gives a nod.
Soon our vehicles come to a halt by the café where we had eaten the day prior. As we enter the place together, the blonde wraps his arms around my shoulders once more. "In honor of your progress, I will grant you the largest chicken sandwich they possess!", he states dramatically before giving me a wink, "My treat."
"We never claimed Collen was experiencing troubles with bows.", Logan speaks in as he grabs the menu from the counter. He passes one to the huntress next to him before adding, "If anything, he squandered today's session demonstrating the talents he already possessed instead of working on those that he lacks."
His words draw my attention to the rationale for his annoyance and my chest tightens. Guilt and disappointment wash over me and I lower my head in shame. The very reason Logan is covering these expensive courses is to help me learn. This is his hard-earned money that I simply wasted today... I should give his efforts and intentions the reverence they are worthy of.
"Oh? No wonder Collen secured the target that was darting at five times the usual speed...", the hunter scratches behind his ear. "Well, no largest chicken sandwich for you, dude.", he adds with a nervous smile, making an attempt to relieve the tension.
"I'm in the mood for one now...", Gwen mumbles.
Marcus turns his attention to her before moving near to look at the menu in her grasp. "I'm going to get this one.", he point at something in the list. "Logan, what will you have?"
The silver-haired male sighs and waves his hand dismissively, "Order anything."
"Then I'll get you what I'm having.", the huntress hums and heads to the counter server with Marc to order, leaving us two behind.
