The first day of classes at Hogwarts had finally arrived, and Y/n, Daphne, and Tracey couldn't contain their excitement as they entered the Great Hall for breakfast. The enchanting atmosphere, coupled with the aroma of delicious food, added to their sense of anticipation.
As they took their seats at the Slytherin table, the Head of Houses began distributing the timetables. Y/n glanced at hers and noticed the disapproving look Snape gave her as he handed her the parchment. She leaned over to Daphne and Tracey, quietly commenting, "Seems like Snape isn't too thrilled with me, since I'm a former Black."
Daphne raised an eyebrow. "That's a real shame, considering how awesome you are."
With determination in their eyes, they finished their breakfast and made their way to their first class, Transfiguration with the Gryffindors. Daphne and Tracey found seats together, leaving Y/n with an empty seat beside her. She cast a quick spell to ward off potential seatmates, ensuring she had some space.
As Y/n observed the classroom, her gaze landed on a tabby cat on the teacher's desk. With a grin, she addressed the cat, "Hello, Professor McGonagall."
Daphne and Tracey exchanged bemused glances, but Y/n's confident attitude intrigued them.
The unexpected happened when the tabby cat transformed into Professor McGonagall right before their eyes. Ron's surprised voice filled the room as he said, "That was bloody brilliant!"
McGonagall warned the latecomers, "Thank you for that assessment, Mr. Weasley. Perhaps, it'd be more useful if I were to transfigure Mr. Potter and yourself into a pocketwatch. That way, one of you might be on time."
Harry then complained, "But, we got lost."
McGonagall looked unimpressed with the excuse, "Then perhaps a map? I trust you don't need one to find your seats."The class commenced, and Y/n followed along, taking in the impressive transfiguration spells taught by the esteemed professor.
After Transfiguration, the trio headed to their next class, Potions, with Professor Snape. Upon entering the classroom, Y/n sensed the tension in the air. Snape's stern voice filled the room as he began his lecture about the subtleties of potion-making, "There will be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion-making. However, for those select few...who possess the predisposition, I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory and even put a stopper...in death. Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough... to not... pay... attention."
Snape sees Potter is writing and not listening so he questiones him, Y/n paid close attention, determined to prove herself, "Potter. Our... new... celebrity. Tell me, what would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood? You don't know? Well, let's try again. Where, Mr. Potter, would you look if I asked you to find me a bezoar? You also don't know? And what is the difference between monkshood and wolfbane? Pity. Clearly, fame isn't everything. Is it, Mr. Potter?" After Potter wasn't able to answer a single question Snape's gaze fell on her, and he asked, "Miss Tonks, do you know the answers to these questions?"
Y/n met his gaze without hesitation. "Asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion known as the Draught of Living Death. A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat that can save you from most poisons. Monkshood and wolfsbane are the same plant, also known as aconite."
Snape looked both pleased and annoyed by her response, awarding Slytherin points before reprimanding the Gryffindors for not copying down the information. Y/n's smirk was directed at Harry and Ron, who exchanged frustrated glances.
As the day progressed, Y/n and her friends moved on to their Flying lesson with Madam Hooch. They chatted excitedly along the way, discussing what they anticipated from the class and sharing their thoughts about the day's events so far.
"I can't believe we're finally getting to fly on brooms," Y/n exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Daphne nodded in agreement. "I've heard it's quite thrilling. I wonder if it's as easy as they make it sound."
Tracey added with a grin, "Well, we've got each other for moral support, and Y/n's probably going to show us up anyway."
Y/n chuckled. "I'll try to hold back my brilliance just for today."
As they reached the flying field, Madam Hooch began giving instructions on how to summon their brooms. Y/n listened intently, eager to try it out for herself. After Madam Hooch's demonstration, Y/n confidently raised her hand and called her broom to her, her voice imbued with determination. The broom obediently zoomed into her outstretched hand.
Daphne and Tracey exchanged glances and then grinned at Y/n's success. "Show-off," Daphne teased.
Y/n winked at them. "Only a little."
The class went on, and as they practiced mounting and hovering on their brooms, Y/n's skill became apparent. Daphne and Tracey managed to summon their brooms on their second tries, both of them laughing about their initial awkwardness.
However, the lesson took an unexpected turn when Neville Longbottom accidentally shot into the air. Y/n and her friends watched with concern, but Y/n couldn't help but chuckle. "Looks like Neville is having a wilder ride than the rest of us."
The situation escalated when Draco Malfoy seized Neville's Remembrall and took to the sky, followed closely by Harry Potter. Y/n watched the spectacle unfold with raised eyebrows. "Well, that escalated quickly," she murmured, her voice tinged with amusement.
As Malfoy and Potter exchanged heated words in the air, Y/n turned to Daphne and Tracey. "This is going to be interesting."
Daphne laughed softly. "Potter and Malfoy always find a way to make everything dramatic."
Their attention returned to the flying lesson as the two boys continued their confrontation. Draco eventually threw the Remembrall back to the ground, and Y/n seized the opportunity. With a casual flick of her fingers, she cast a spell that made the Remembrall vanish in flames, only to reappear in her hand moments later.
Daphne and Tracey burst into laughter beside her, their eyes sparkling with delight. "Y/n, you are something else!" Tracey exclaimed between giggles.
Y/n grinned back at them. "I couldn't resist a little dramatic flair."
As the shock settled over the class, Daphne and Tracey congratulated Y/n on her cunning move. "You managed to outshine both Malfoy and Potter in a single stroke," Daphne remarked, clearly impressed.
"It's all in a day's work," Y/n replied, her smirk playful.
With the Flying lesson concluded, the trio made their way back to their dormitory, the memory of their first day at Hogwarts already filled with memorable moments.
