Emma had never seen so many people in one spot. It seemed as if the entire town was there. In the moment she felt overwhelmed, but with her mother by her side she felt her nerves cool.
She could feel the eyes of the town on her, all their faces graced with shock to see her there. It was this that made her grateful for the dress her mother had gotten her. At the very least, she knew they weren't looking because she looked horrid. The rich green fabric fit her perfectly and made her pale skin gleam. It had white lace detailing, and puffed at her hips in just the right way. She felt beautiful.
She could not wait for Damon to see her in it.
Her mother walked directly beside her as they entered the house. Her father had been in New York visiting his brother, so they were alone tonight.
They were immediately met with the bustling noise of conversation and music. Upon entering they were offered a drink of some sort , which her mother eagerly accepted. She sniffed it, swirled the liquid in the glass, and brought it to her mouth. Emma watched as her mother gingerly took a sip, her face scrunching slightly before settling to a satisfied expression.
"That is quite strong, they certainly spared no expense tonight," her mother commented starring at the contents of the glass. Emma had looked away from her then, looking for a certain dark-haired man. She found it difficult to see through the crowds of people, and her face fell as her search continued.
"Em!" A voiced called from behind her. She turned swiftly in excitement. Her face fell slightly when she saw the youngest Salvatore broth standing there, but she corrected quickly and greeted him with a strong smile.
"Stefan, hello!" Her mother smiled at the two. Stefan offered a head nod in greeting. There was a silence that hung in the air. No member of the party quite knowing how to continue the conversation.
"Honey, I'm going to go speak with some of the other ladies. Come and find me if you need me." Honoria knew Stefan was only there to speak with Emma, and with that she walked away, Emma watching as she left.
"You know, you could a least pretend you are happy to see me," Stefan joked, causing Emma to roll her eyes. Her and Stefan had grown close during the past months, Stefan always being willing to cover for her and Damon during their escapades.
"Of course I am happy to see you Stef, I just thought you were Da-"
"Damon?" Stefan interrupted. "Don't worry, your husband is around her somewhere." A smirk graced his face at his last comment, Stefan's favorite thing to do was tease Emma about her relationship with Damon.
"Stefan, be quiet! Someone could hear you," the words came out of her at a fast whisper as she scanned the area for any listeners. "And he is not my husband."
Stefan chuckled at her reaction, one that he was always able to garner out of her.
"Not yet," he quipped. He was met by a soft glare from the girl, which earned a chuckle from the boy.
