In the heart of the shifter territory, the grand hall of the Alpha's residence was abuzz with anticipation. Gathered were the key members of the pack, waiting for an update on the theater incident. The room grew silent as Eric and Elena entered.
Eric stepped forward, acknowledging the Alpha with a nod. "Alpha, the theater has been secured. We found seventeen shifters, most in varying states of distress. They've been kidnapped from packs far and wide for their saliva. They're all safe now."
The Alpha's eyes were filled with a mix of relief and anger. "This cannot go unanswered. But first, they must be cared for. Luna Nora coordinate with our healers. These wolves are our responsibility now."
Nora, though initially wary of Elena, stepped up with efficiency. "I've prepared homes for them, at least until they are strong enough or choose to return to their own packs. We'll ensure they receive medical attention and counseling. I've contacted Alex and his agreed to help us by providing extra food supplies from his cafe that we will need to feed the extra mouths."
Elena took a deep breath, "We've also secured evidence from the theater. It should be enough to lead a case against the drug rings."
The Alpha looked at Elena, a hint of respect in his eyes. "Your assistance is valued, Elena. Our world needs more bridges like you and Eric."
With the debrief concluded, Eric sensed Elena's exhaustion and emotional turmoil. "Let's get some rest," he suggested, guiding her away from the grand hall.
Elena hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Alright."
This time when Elena entered it was clear that she had gain a new found respect by the others. The feeling was welcomed and need.As the laughter and chatter continued around them, Elena found herself drawn into a quieter corner of the gathering, the flickering firelight casting shadows across Lauren's face.
Lauren looked at Elena, her eyes insightful and probing. "You know, when I first met you, I felt a lot of pain, sorrow, and anger from you. You don't have to keep it all bottled up."
Elena sighed, looking into the fire. "It's just... everything about this world reminds me of my mother in a strange way. She was... addicted. To drugs. It destroyed our family, and she's no longer with us."
Lauren's eyes softened with understanding, "I'm so sorry to hear that, Elena."
Elena continued, the weight of her past pressing down on her. "It's been tough. And now, discovering that wolves have been taken advantage of, to create substances that humans abuse... it's just too close to home."
Lauren reached out, placing a comforting hand on Elena's shoulder. "Life has a strange way of intertwining our pasts and presents. Maybe it's the universe's way of saying you're strong enough to make a difference now."
Elena looked up, tears shimmering in her eyes. "Lauren. It's just... Eric's been so kind, and I can't help but feel out of place amongst you all."
Lauren chuckled, "Eric's a good one. He sees something in you, and trust me, his instincts are rarely wrong. Nothing ever happens by coincidence Elena. We always end up where we belong and as who where intending to be.
Elena, not wanting to lose her composure at the idea of having somthing she's always longed for moved the conversation in a lighter direction. "Thunder, his your mate?" Knowing already the answer.
Lauren's beautiful smile brightened as she nodded.
"I have to admit you make a beautiful couple. I hope you don't mind me saying his one of the most attractive men I've ever seen." Elena confessed.
At that a bellowing laugh sounded out, it was so loud that Elena looked up searching for the sound and her eyes drawn to Thunder who was sticking up his middle finger in Eric's direction. Eric was looking in her direction his eyes alight, glowing almost.
She looked at Lauren who seeemed like she was trying not to laugh. She eventually failed and covered up a giggle. " he is, but his mine so for my sake we won't make comments like that again". Lauren burst out into laughter agin as she looked at Eric not making her believe for a second that she took offence to the comment.
Elena hesitated for a moment, before asking, "Does he... have a mate? Eric."
Lauren looked thoughtful, "All
Wolfs do."Elena nodded, processing the information. "It's a complex world you live in. Mates, bonds, packs... It's all so new to me."
Lauren smiled, "Give it time, Elena. You're learning, and you're not alone. You have Eric, and the rest of us. You belong with us."
Elena smiled back, her heart feeling a tad lighter. "Thank you, Lauren. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
Lauren grinned. They both turned their attention back to the group, feeling more connected than before.
