[15] To Catch a Rat

[AN: Yomu chapter. This is going to be a huge progression in the plot. Next chapter will be a new perspective.]

"...Envy never dies."

I couldn't get that line out of my head.

I laid flat in a bed, staring at the ceiling. I couldn't gather any energy, and I didn't want to do anything at all.

My place was ruined. It was all in shambles and had unliveable conditions.

All the beds were screwed, the rooms destroyed and furniture displaced. Holes and shattered materials all over the walls, and dread filled the whole establishment.

Miyuki doesn't remember what happened, so Akemi managed to convince her it was a dream— but Chiyo?

Yoimiya had to lie, saying a natural disaster had occurred. She had a hard time believing it, but she took it anyways.

As to where all the girls were now? Akemi was at the Takahashi's, Yoimiya at Chiyo's place and then Tazia... I actually don't know.

She just left without saying anything.

I couldn't forget it. I saw her face-- she heard it loud and clear.

She knows I'm the Lust Devil. Who knows where she left to? If I was a devil under my own wing, and I found out that the entire time my time here was due to me being the Lust Devil-- I'd probably leave out of mixed negative feelings.

...Besides that, I was recuperating in Makima's apartment— all alone.

After such a poor display yesterday, how could I ever face any of my girls again?

Regardless of the fact, I think I may have a even greater problem looming towards me.

...I couldn't even contact Himeno— my phone had shattered remember? I could have asked someone to call her, but my pride refused to involve others in my conflict. If there's one thing I know, I'm sure she had something to say...

Flipping over on my side, I had nothing to do but painfully recollect the events that had transpired.

We were attacked by some Bomb Devil, who turned out to be the waitress at the cafe me and Akemi went to. She was targeting Denji, but she also tried to take us with him.

If you think about it, it doesn't seem to correlate. Could it have been a cover up from the main threat? Instead of focusing on Denji, she made no hesitation to try and murder me, Yoimiya and Akemi.

Suddenly then, a new devil tried to kill Akemi to finish her off, leading to Tazia getting dragged in our own place.

Well, unless this new person in the picture— wanted to kill all of us in the process, it would mean it's two birds, one stone.

By new person, I should probably reinstate who was messing with us.

The Envy Devil.

...If I was considered to be one of the legendary devils, he would also fit the image.

Back then, we were close once. But as his name implied...

He was envious, so he betrayed me.

Clenching my fist, I ruffled my hair while squeezing my head.

He was always jealous of me— even though everything he ever wanted was handed to him on a silver plate. Envy was a spoiled piece of shit-- and I was someone who had done so much for him. I thought I could trust him, but I was so, so wrong.

One thing lead to another, and it resulted in me having to 'kill' him.

When we kill a devil, they are usually sent back to hell to be reincarnated as a new being again. The memories are reset, and practically a new person is born.
