"Fine, the sooner we kick their asses, the sooner we can all go home."
_________________________Edenbrook's atrium was packed with staff as Blue and Ethan entered the hospital the next morning, already anticipating the crowd this early in the morning.
"Did Naveen tell you what this is gonna be about?" Blue asked Ethan as they squeezed their way through.
"No, just the email he sent everyone to gather here for an announcement before the first shift starts." Ethan answered, handing his to-go coffee to Blue as he took her hand in his, leading the way through the crowd.
"Whatever it is, it seems important." Blue mused as she spotted her friends waving them over to where they had a good view of the little pedestal at the front of the atrium.
"Think the governor's visiting again?" Elijah asked them as they waited.
"Didn't she just visit a few weeks ago?" Rafael replied. "It has to be something else."
"Another budget deficit?" Jackie suggested anxiously.
"With Caroline rearing our funds? Definitely not." Blue responded with a shake of her head.
"I guess we're about to find out." Tobias said, joining them along with Harper as he nodded towards the pedestal where Naveen had walked onto.
"Good morning everyone, thank you so much for gathering here at such short notice." Naveen began with a warm smile on his face. "And don't worry, I will keep this short."
The staff exchanged curious glances and murmurs as they watched a grin spread out on the Chief's face.
"Team Edenbrook, I hope you're ready to win against Team Solomon Kenmore in the upcoming annual softball game!"
The atrium erupted in cheers and laughs, everyone already excited for the annual game.
"That's it? From the entire build-up, I thought we were all getting a pay raise." Jackie remarked.
"Technically, we are getting a bonus for the new year, Jackie." Elijah reminded with a chuckle.
"Besides, the satisfaction that we will get once we kick Kenmore's ass in the game, is worth more than any increase in salary." Bryce cheered.
"You're forgetting one of our friends work there, Bryce." Blue laughed. "Not to mention Tobias here being an ex-Team Kenmore."
"That was in the past, Hunter." Tobias told her with a sassy raise of his hand. "Now I'm all prepared to send Kenmore packing by the last whistle."
"Gee, and I though Ramsey was sassy." Jackie murmured playfully.
"They are friends for a reason." Raf added, making them chuckle.
"I heard that." Ethan spoke, making them chuckle this time.
"Guess we'll all have to meet up at the court behind the ambulance bay later to train for the upcoming game." Bryce announced.
"I'm afraid I can't join." Ethan told them. "I have to head to a meeting with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) later to finalize a review on my IgA deficiency research."
"Aww alright." Elijah said a little disappointed, though he added, "But seeing the way you played for us two years ago, I'm sure you're gonna do great for us this year too."
"When did I say I was going to play?" Ethan bantered.
"Try to get that past your wife, buddy, I don't think it's going work." Tobias gestured to Blue who already looked like she had the perfect way to get him to agree, and she knew that all she had to do was ask.
