It was relieving to see that Elijah's number was the same.
Everything seemed to be the same.
He was the same.
Kind-hearted. Funny. Awkward. Sarcastic.
He was everything they thought they would never recover.
Blaze couldn't help but feel a rush of possessiveness every time he saw Elijah. It was like a missing piece of their puzzle had fallen back into place. He had always been tactical, calculating his moves like a chess player, but this—this was different. Elijah's unexpected return had sparked an obsession in him. He needed to understand, to know every detail about this new Elijah who reminded him so much of the one they had lost.
He found himself staring at his phone, Elijah's number glowing on the screen. The familiarity of it was comforting, a tangible link to the past. Blaze's mind raced with thoughts of their tutoring sessions, the way Elijah had effortlessly fallen back into their lives, unknowingly tethering himself to them once more.
Blaze's fingers itched to text Elijah, to demand answers, to bridge the gap that still lingered between them. But he knew better. He had to play this carefully. He had to watch, to wait, to let Elijah come to him.
"Blaze," Ethan's voice called, pulling him from his thoughts.
Blaze looked up to see his boyfriend standing in the doorway, a concerned look on his face. Ethan had always been the protector, the one who shielded them from the harshness of the world. Blaze's possessiveness often meshed with Ethan's protective nature, creating a balance that kept them grounded.
"Yeah?" Blaze replied, trying to mask the intensity of his thoughts.
Ethan walked over, his gaze softening as he studied Blaze. "You okay? You seemed lost in thought."
Blaze managed a small smile. "Just thinking about Elijah. It's... strange, isn't it? Having him back like this."
Ethan nodded, his hand coming to rest on Blaze's shoulder, grounding him. "Yeah, it is. But we'll figure it out. We always do."
Blaze leaned into Ethan's touch, drawing comfort from his presence. Ethan's protectiveness was a steady anchor, a contrast to Blaze's more obsessive tendencies. Where Blaze wanted to dissect and understand, Ethan wanted to shield and care.
"Do you think he remembers anything?" Blaze asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan sighed, his brow furrowing. "I don't know. But we need to be patient. If we push too hard, we might scare him off."
Blaze nodded, knowing Ethan was right. But patience had never been his strong suit. He wanted answers, and he wanted them now. The thought of Elijah slipping through their fingers again was unbearable.
Ethan seemed to sense his turmoil. He tightened his grip on Blaze's shoulder, his eyes meeting Blaze's with unwavering resolve. "We'll get through this together, Blaze. Just like we always have."
