It had been weeks since their get-together at the cafeteria.

They had become some sort of friends? At least Elijah hoped so.

They had their lunches together every day. Walked together to their classes. That sort of stuff.

He didn't think it was weird anymore how Ethan and Blaze were everywhere he went either.

It was weirdly comforting? He didn't know why. He just felt something telling him that was the way things were supposed to be.

They had to be together. Always.

Elijah found himself looking forward to their daily interactions. The routine had settled into something almost natural, like they had been doing this for years. Blaze's infectious laughter and Ethan's steady presence had become constants in his life, grounding him in a way he hadn't felt in a long time.

He sat at his usual spot in the library, trying to focus on his studies. But his mind kept drifting back to his new friends. Friends. It still felt strange to call them that, but it was a strange he welcomed.

Their bond seemed to strengthen with each passing day. Blaze's enthusiasm was infectious, pulling Elijah into conversations and activities he would have otherwise avoided. Ethan, on the other hand, provided a sense of security, always there with a reassuring word or a protective glance.

He had started to notice the small things. The way Ethan's eyes would soften when he looked at Blaze. The way Blaze's face would light up at something Elijah said. He didn't understand it fully, but he felt a warmth in his chest every time he saw them together. They fit, like pieces of a puzzle he was only beginning to comprehend.

There were moments, though, when unease crept in. Little inconsistencies that didn't quite match up with what he remembered from the book. The way they spoke about their past, the familiarity in their gestures. It was like they knew him better than he knew himself. It was unsettling, but he couldn't bring himself to question it. Not yet. Not when he was so desperate for the connection they offered.

"Hey, Eli," Blaze's voice broke through his thoughts, startling him.

Elijah looked up to see Blaze and Ethan standing at the edge of the table, their expressions warm and inviting. "Lost in thought again?" Blaze teased, a playful glint in his eyes.

Elijah smiled, closing his book. "Something like that. What's up?"

"We were thinking of grabbing some coffee. Want to join us?" Ethan asked, his tone casual but his gaze steady.

Elijah hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Sure, why not?"

As they left the library, the familiar sense of belonging washed over him. He still didn't understand why he felt so drawn to them, why their presence was so comforting. But for now, he was content to go along with it, to let the mystery of their connection unfold at its own pace.
