Saddened Hearts

Pixal stood at the hallway, her eyes fixed on the poster on the wall. People walked passed her and she just doesn't seem to care, even if she could faintly hear them calling her a 'freak'.

The Robotics Competition! Don't miss it, fellow talented students! For the winner, will receive a big cash prize which is twice the amount of last year's winner cash prize! This year's theme will be 'Combat Fighters', so get creative and submit your work to the Ninjago Robotics Centre located in the east coast Ninjago City!

Pixal was unsure whether to join the competition or not, given that she had won last year, and the year before that, and the year before. It almost seemed pointless to join again, considering she only joined to give herself some challenge, suppose the prize money helps too so she doesn't need to ask her dad for some every time. Her dad needs his money for his creations, to which she fully supports.

"Hey Pix, whatcha starin' at?" Nya came marching from across the hallway, calling out to Pixal and ignoring everyone else.

"Oh, this. You'll be fine, Pix! You'll win again this year, I have no doubts!" Nya took one glance at the poster and gave Pixal a wide smile.

"Thanks, but....do you think it's okay if I take a break this year?"

Nya cocked an eyebrow and simply asked, "Huh? Why?" to which Pixal just looked away and gritted her teeth.

"I don't know...I just don't feel like...joining this year," Pixal glanced back at the poster again, seemingly lost in deep thoughts. "It seems...useless to join."

Nya gave a stare that very much reflected sympathy and put a hand on Pixal's shoulder. "It's not useless, it's something you're good at and you can invest in that talent! Didn't you won a total of almost 60k over the last four years you participated? Look, they raised the prize again this year. You can show people that you're not worthless!" Nya flared her hand, she had hoped her excited attitude would cheer Pixal up but it didn't exactly do much.

"Yet people still hate me."

"They're just jealous of your talent." Nya smiled. It's as if she keeps offering Pixal encouragement but Pixal just denied every single bit.

"Hey, uhm...may I take a picture of the poster?" A voice of a girl called out, both of them turned their gaze towards the brightly pink-haired girl who looked a bit younger.

"Oh, sorry. Sure, go ahead." Nya and Pixal backed up, giving the girl some space to work out an angle to take the picture from.

The girl held out her phone diagonally and snapped a few pictures of the poster, not forgetting to throw a, "Thanks," at them.

"No problem. Are you joining the competition too?" Nya simply asked and the girl nodded.

"Yeah, I'm really interested in engineering and I've always wanted to join this competition! I couldn't join last year because I was a bit too late when I found out, but I swore I would join this year!" The girl grinned happily. Nya could see that she's really excited for this competition.

"Well I'm sure you'll do awesome! This champion right here is thinking of not joining the competition this year and surely you'll be able to replace her." Nya smirked and Pixal just gave her a stare that very much said, "Seriously?"

The girl glanced at Pixal and then it's as if there was a suprise birthday present for her, she gasped and her eyes shone. "Pixal, right? I'm such a fan of your work! I actually got into engineering because of you! My name's Sora, by the way!"
