I made my way to the kitchen, ready to start breakfast for today, while Shaun attends to Raven. Whilst she was chatting away with the girls, laughing and having the time of her life, the pain seemed to have settled. She didn’t need the heating pad or the water bottle. She looked fine, which was great.

Whilst Monde had succeeded in assuring them that everything is alright with her, during the evening, things went downhill on her side too. Philip had called me urgently, asking if Raven would be up to having a sleepover with her because Monde was more or less having a breakdown about this whole Levi thing. Yes, she seemed so strong about the attack and her now ex-boyfriend, and I admire her for it.

But in situations like these, you can only be so strong for so long until you reach your breaking point. So Raven and I had stayed with her until she fell asleep, pretty much crying herself to sleep. It appeared to me she has just now accepted the situation and that her ex will no longer be in her life after six whole years. It was both sad and frustrating.

Philip said he would have taken her to her other friends, Emmett, but he just brought in a new baby and her other friends are out of town. And in this case, she needs lady friends because majority of her friends are males. And just like that, they spent the night at our house.

And like every other night, the pain comes back full force and wouldn’t let her sleep. So we’d stayed up almost all night with her and Shaun and I could only watch as she whimpered in pain, moving around and attempting different position to relieve the pain. We’d given her medication, the water bottle and even back massages, but nothing worked. She was just in so much pain and she was sweating. In one of the nights, she vomited.

You don’t actually realise how dire the situation is until you’re seeing it from a front row seat. I hated seeing her like that. I hate how helpless I am about it too.

With yet another yawn, I rounded the corner to the kitchen and stopped when I see Philip rushing around, making breakfast.

He turns to me as I trudged in. “Morning,” he greeted, briefly turning to me. “I…uh, hope I’m not overstepping. I thought I should make breakfast, since you guys were kind enough to help my daughter,”

“It’s fine,” I said quickly. “Thank you,” I quickly added, knowing my mother would have a field day reprimanding me about my lack of manners. Especially to his boyfriend. “It smells amazing,”

“I’m about halfway, so it won’t be long,” he said offering a small smile before turning back to the pan. I contemplated going back to see if Raven needed my help, but something told me to stay.

“Need a hand?” I asked. The question came as a shocker to the both of us. He doesn’t say anything for a moment, just looking at me. He could have said no, but whatever he was thinking about, told him to do quite the opposite. It is now that I realise that this man has a greater chance at marrying my mother and being in our lives, and yet we’re still in an awkward position.

“Of course,” he said. “Come on in,” I nodded amicably, walking in. “I’m just making bacon. Maybe you could do the fruits?” he said. I made my way to the various fruits laid out on a bowl, already washed. I began chopping them into fine dice and thinner slices.

The aroma of my favourite food hit me like no other and I found myself eyeing the plate filled with slices upon slices of French toast. “You can take one if you want,” I turned to Philip, doing my best to ignore the heat rushing to my neck. He chuckled lowly. “Your mother told me you like French toast,” he said.

“Let me guess,” I said not looking at him. “This is your way of winning me over?” I didn’t mean it as disrespect and the look on Philip’s face tells me he knows that too.
