The shard glimmered green in the shade, illuminating your tired face. You wanted to sleep, your aching body pushed you further towards the hope of a peaceful rest. Perhaps a quick nap...
"No, you must not." I say. You look around hazily, eyes drifting between my towering statue and the mystic sliver of stone you held shakily in your hands. It brightened and dimmed as if alive, a tiny heartbeat resting in your palm. "You must listen to me carefully, for you may not survive this turn of events otherwise."
This was going to be very entertaining.
. . . . .
"Sleeping on the job?"
You jolted awake in your seat, flinging the sword you unconsciously gripped around clumsily. The person before you squawked in surprise, jumping backwards off the ledge you were stationed at. Ah, that's right! You were on lookout duty. Unfortunately.
You shuffled to the edge of your little cliff and looked down. You could just barely make out the path beneath if you squinted, but it was so dark. Who was it that snuck up on you? You saw no one below pancaked on the distant ground, nor clinging to the mountainside.
"Ahem," the voice cleared their throat from directly over your shoulder. You nearly tumbled off the side of the cliff out of shock, if it weren't for them grabbing a hold of your hooded cloak. "Hylia's mercy, calm down," they tutted, yanking you back into the snow. Still bleary- eyed, you peered up at the familiar figure, who stood over you with his wings on his hips. The fire barely illuminated him, but you could recognize those green eyes anywhere.
"Revali...?" you questioned groggily, sitting up from the snowy ground. Revali shot you a sly little smile when you finally realized it was him and looked you up and down. By his expression, it was probably safe to say you looked pretty disheveled and therefore, ridiculous. Maybe even "asinine", as he liked to say. You hurriedly began adjusting your clothes and hair, to which he snickered at even more.
"What are you doing here? I saw you the other day," he laughed, brushing snow off your shoulders with a flick of his wing. "All that fuss for about a week of not seeing each other? How dramatic of you." A pang of embarrassment rang in your chest, but you pushed it back. Its fine.
"Says one of the most dramatic people I know!" you shot back with a grin. It was good to see him again, truly. You'd just about resigned to not seeing him at all during your stay in Rito Village. Or really the Rito Village outskirts. "It is nice to see you though. I tried to visit you when we first arrived, but I had chores to do first. Or maybe I was being picked on. Ugh, I dunno, I was pretty rude on our way here."
Maybe you should say you're sorry? Ahh, Hyrule, the land of apologies. You have never needed to be this repentant when you lived back in your little fishing town. Homesickness has made a palpable pit in your stomach now, every time you think about your family and friends you almost feel like screaming. You missed your bed dearly, along with your cozy home and your neighbor's friendly little dog. Ack, stop thinking about it...
Desperately, you pushed the feeling away and sat back down at the fire. It needed to be stoked a bit more, yes. You busied yourself with tending to the flames, which sent a comforting wave of warmth onto your face. The wind blew smoke in Revali's direction, to which he coughed and hacked loudly. You couldn't help but giggle a little at this.
"Well I supposed that is in character for you," he croaked, plopping down by your side, away from the smoke. "Dream up anything good?" Man, tonight's topics for conversation were kind of heavy. Your strange dream briefly flashed in your mind, it felt almost like a memory at the time, but its fading every minute you're awake. Soon enough, there wont be much to remember.

Fanfiction"At least you have me to keep you company, huh?" you remarked, looking up at the rito cheekily. The flame licked at the bottom of the pot, crackling quietly. Revali only stared at you, feigning annoyance. "Oh, don't give me that look," You scoffed...
