An armored vehicle pulled up to Jame's abandoned house. Soldiers piled out, sweeping the area.
Commander Payne stepped out and led a few soldiers into the house. The front door was swung open, and the threshold was wet with blood. Bullet holes peppered the walls and bullet casings laid strewn about.
"Whiskers, report..." The Commander spoke into his radio as he heard his voice speak through another in the center of the room.
The Commander ran over to the soldier clutching his stomach on the floor, it was Whiskers, bleeding out.
"Hammer, get a medic in here!" The Commander yelled at a heavily armed soldier.
He dropped to his knees to the soldier's body, "Commander, they escaped," is all the soldier could muster up.
"It's alright, we'll get them. They can't escape for long. We got something special coming in."
The rumble of rain filled the otherwise silent interior of James's car, they had been driving for a while and had not said a word since they left.
James took a turn off the main road in the woods and took many different turns and bends along the way until he reached a blind dirt road on the side and drove up it.
The car surprisingly took the muddy road quite well until they sunk a little. The tires desperately tired to grab hold onto something but just spun in place trying to do so.
"Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck!" James slammed on the wheel, "we aren't far, we are just going to have to walk the rest of the way."
He grabbed his backpack and handed Malo the yellow pancho out of it, "stay close to me."
"Alright," she pulled the rain coat over her head.
They abandoned the car and ran into the torrent of rain. Heavy gusts of wind blew against them, causing them to slow down their advance to a walk to not lose their balance.
They kept walking, lighting split the sky in two, illuminating the forest and revealing a structure in front of them.
"Right here!" James yelled over the rain, they walked up to the structure. It was an old large wooden house.
James stopped at the steps leading to the front door, "here Malo open the door, I want to check something out," He handed her a key.
"Make it quick!" She yelled over the rain and walked up the front steps.
James went just right of the stairs. He bent over and took out his knife to cut something. He got up and ran straight to the entrance.
"Im back!" He slammed the door shut behind him.
Stagnant air filled the entrance of the dark empty house, the rain roared outside.
James walked up to Malo, standing in the center of the entrance.
"Where are we James?" She looked around at the decrepit building.
"My grandfather's house, it's the only place I knew that was tucked away from society."
Malo flipped the yellow hood she wore down, "I guess we'll stay here a bit, then... we'll have to go on the run again."
"Let's go find somewhere to sleep," he signaled her over.
They walked through the house as lightning struck and floorboards creaked. They had gone up a staircase in the main entrance and now walked down an eerie hallway.
"This place is creepy, huh?" Malo whispered.
"Hell yeah it is, I used to live here for a bit actually."
