Ivan's POV:

I woke up from the sound of sobs emanating from the balcony, and it didn't take me long to realize who it was. It was Raven, the love of my life, crying in the quiet of the night.

My heart ached at the thought of her in such pain. I knew that the past months must have been incredibly difficult for her as she bore the weight of her responsibilities in my absence. Determined to be there for her, I got out of bed as quietly as possible and made my way to the balcony.

There she was, sitting on the floor, her shoulders trembling with each sob. I could see the exhaustion etched into her features, and it broke my heart to witness her in such a state.

Without a word, I sat down beside her, pulling her into my embrace. She leaned into me, and I held her close, offering the warmth and comfort of my presence. There were no words needed in that moment—just the reassurance that I was there, that I had returned to share her burdens and be by her side once again.

"Never leave me alone," she mumbled between sobs, her voice filled with vulnerability and fear.

"Never," I whispered back, my words carrying the weight of my commitment to her. I gently planted a tender kiss on her head, holding her tightly in my arms. It was a promise I intended to keep, a vow to always be there for her, no matter the challenges or obstacles that lay ahead.

After what felt like an eternity, Raven's sobs gradually subsided, and her breaths slowed down, a sign that she had finally found some semblance of peace and fallen asleep in my arms. Carefully, I lifted her in my arms, cradling her gently, and carried her to the bed.

I laid her down on the bed, making sure she was comfortable and tucked in. I watched her sleeping form for a moment, the worry that had etched itself onto her face in her waking hours now smoothed away in slumber.

Sliding in next to her, I couldn't help but marvel at the serenity on her face as she slept. I knew that the challenges that lay ahead were not to be underestimated, but in that moment, I was grateful for the simple comfort of having her by my side once more.

I reached out to brush a strand of hair away from her face, and then I settled in beside her, watching over her as she slept, ready to protect her and ensure that she never felt alone again.

As Raven slept peacefully beside me, I noticed a book that had been left untouched, kept within arm's reach. Curious, I picked it up, its pages filled with the stories and worlds that had captured her imagination.

With the soft glow of a nearby lamp illuminating the pages, I began to read the book, immersing myself in the words and tales that had meant so much to her. It was a window into her world, a chance to understand her even more deeply.

As I turned the pages, I couldn't help but steal glances at her sleeping form, cherishing the sight of her in repose. The combination of her presence and the story I was reading filled the room with a sense of quiet intimacy, a reminder of the bond we shared and the promise of the future we would face together.

"Ivan," she called my name, and I looked up from the book to find her watching me, her eyes filled with a gentle affection.

"Yes, love," I replied, setting the book aside and moving closer to her, laying down beside her on the bed and turning to face her.

She didn't speak, but her actions spoke volumes. Raven snuggled closer to me, seeking the warmth and comfort of our embrace. I gladly wrapped my arms around her, holding her tenderly as we basked in the quiet intimacy of the moment.

"Do you want to eat something?" she finally asked, breaking the silence. I couldn't help but chuckle at her concern. It was evident that she had been working tirelessly in my study without taking a break.

"No, are you hungry?" I asked in return, genuinely concerned for her well-being.

She nodded in response.

"Come on, then. Let's get you something to eat," I suggested, getting up from the bed and gently lifting her into my arms. She protested, insisting that she could walk and reminding me that I was injured.

"It's healed," I assured her, silencing her with a soft kiss, and then carried her to the hearth where we could share a meal together, cherishing the simple joy of being reunited.

I carefully placed Raven in her seat at the dining table and then went to the hearth to fetch the food for her. I had anticipated her hunger, knowing she had been working diligently and needed nourishment. I had already informed the royal cook to prepare a meal for her, and it was now ready to be served.

As I watched her eagerly tuck into her food, a warm smile spread across my face. It filled my heart with joy to see her eating happily, her appetite a testament to the relief and comfort of having me back by her side. In that moment, I couldn't help but be grateful for the simple pleasures of sharing a meal together, a symbol of our reunion and the promise of brighter days ahead.

"Are you satisfied?" I inquired, my eyes locked onto her as I awaited her response.

With a content smile gracing her lips, she nodded. Her smile was a balm to my soul, and I couldn't help but feel a rush of happiness as I saw the sparkle return to her eyes—the same sparkle that had been momentarily dimmed earlier in the night.

Her contentment and the renewed light in her eyes were a testament to the fact that I was right where I belonged, by her side. It was a reminder of the love and comfort that we found in each other, a love that had the power to banish any darkness that might try to encroach on our world.
