*****I was waiting in the balcony for them to come back. Although I didn't truly believe my mom could get her back, I didn't want to give up on the possibility. So I waited.
And waited...
And waited.
As soon as I got up to go back into the house, I saw my moms car coming up the driveway. For that car to go so fast, she drove it extremely slow. The only time she drives fast is when she's on the race track in the back. Other than that she drives like the normal old lady, right below the speed limit with a parade of cars trailing behind her.
I was able to get down stairs, grab a cup of lemonade check myself in the mirror and open the door before they were insight of the front door.
Once she pulled up, I saw Ariel sitting in the passenger seat and my heart skipped a beat.
Damn. My mom is good. I thought and by the look on Ariel's face she already knew she had just been jipped.
They exited the car and approached me. As they grew closer, my explanation for Ariel completely left my mind.
When they were in front of me I was completely speechless.
We just stood there looking at each other in silence. "Okay how about we all go into the house so we can get out of this heat." My mom suggested.
We entered the house and went into the den. I turned off the television and sat down across from her because she decided to sit in the chair instead of the sofa.
My mom went to the kitchen to finish preparing the picnic basket, giving us some privacy.
"I'm sorry." We said at the same time.
"You go first." She allowed.
"Im sorry for not stopping the kiss. But I was caught off guard by her even being here. She was supposed to stay far away from me. I had a restraining order against her and everything. She was the first person to claim to be pregnant by me you know?" I asked rhetorically.
"Yeah."
"She went crazy- wait you said you know?" I asked confused. When she nodded I asked "How?"
"Your mother told me." She said sheepishly.
I should have known.
"And she told me about what you do for those kids every year."
"If you ask me to stop, I'm just letting you know right now, I can't." I said quickly. "Those kids don't deserve what happened to them and I just want to help them out. Their mothers don't know it's me giving them gifts so there's no worries there." I said defensively.
"Alexander, I would never ask you to stop doing that. I was a foster child my whole life and I would have loved to get at least one gift every Christmas." She said on a sigh. "I want to apologize for jumping to conclusions and doubting... whatever this is that we have. I'm not really used to any type of relationship so this will be a difficult journey for me. I just... ask that you give me time to sort through my emotions and decide on the path I want to take with you. Ah shit." She paused, "All this serious talk is making me want to cry."
