As we were all sitting around the picnic table, conversation never seemed to die down. If we weren't talking about the babies, we were talking about fashion, family and even sports.
I was engulfed in eating my second plate of food when the almighty Nick laughed, "Good God, you sure can eat." He said in a joking manner.
I knew it was a joke, but I took it personally. I put down my fork. I would have usually had a witty comeback, but the comment hit a nerve. It doesn't usually bother me because I know I'm pregnant and it's natural, but every woman has those insecurities.
Everyone laughed a little except Alex. He watched my reaction and noticed my silence and the fact that I stopped eating. "Well she's pregnant with twins Stupid, what did you expect? " He asked harshly.
It's okay,"I interrupted, "I have been eating alot today, I should just-"
"Finish eating." Alex cut me off looking into my eyes. Then he leaned over and said, "The doctor said you were still undersized to be four months gone with twins. Besides, you'll still be one sexy mama to me. But I can show you better than I can tell you." He whispered the last part, making me blush.
"What? I didn't mean to offend you Ariel, it's just you truly do eat more than - never mind. I meant it as a compliment. " He said getting all discombobulated.
"How is saying that I eat alot a compliment? " I asked genuinely confused.
"It's a compliment because it shows us your a real person. You're not more concerned about your figure than your health and hunger." He said exasperatedly.
"Your not like the others." Ms. Sarah said. "We can tell you have no ulterior motives, and that's why we wholeheartedly accept you into this family."
Your not going to cry. Your not going to cry. I chanted to myself.
"Thank you guys. You don't even know how much that means to me." I said emotionally.
"So when can we meet your family? " Nick asked.
Before I could answer Alex roared "Why do you keep putting damned foot in your mouth!?"
"No, it's okay." I soothed. "My parents gave me up for adoption when I was born. I went from foster home to foster home my whole life. I found out about nine months ago they were millionaires. My grandfather found me and signed the business over to me right before he died." I finished in a monotone, trying to hold back tears.
"Well you have us now." Mr.James said. "Even if things don't work out between you and Alex, which they better," he paused sending Alex a warning glance, "We'll still be here for you, we haven't known you for that long but I already consider you family."
When he finished, I glimpsed at everyone for a half of a second for confirmation and they all nodded. Alex had this 'proud' look on his face, as if he had won a game.
I willed myself not to cry and just smiled at each of them. I've been alone for most of my life and sitting at that table with everyone, I truely felt like I belonged, like I had family.

Alex's POV
"Just please get me my Clausen Zesty pickles! Thats all I asked you to do. Never even mind, I'll get it myself!" Ari yelled.
We were in the grocery store buying food for the week, and all Ari wanted was junk food. We were on the pickle isle but the pickles she wanted were too high on the shelf, so she asked me to grab them. When I simply questioned her, she nearly bit my head off .
