"And that's a wrap on 'High School Musical 4!"
The cast and crew cheer as Quinn announces that filming for 'HSM4' was over. It was bitter sweet for all of them. They had just finished filming the big reunion number.
"Congrats on wrapping on the movie, everybody. Thank you!" Summer tells everyone, as she tries to get to rehearsals for the musical as soon as possible. Summer stops to hug one of the crew members, who she had become close with. "Hey! Thank you so much for everything. I really appreciate it."
"Of course." The guy says, hugging her back.
Summer walks ahead running into Bart Johnson who was making a video.
"What's up, my Wildcats?" Bart asks, as Summer stops to do the video with him. "We just wrapped 'High School Musical 4'. And I'm here with our leading lady, Summer Jones. Now technically, Disney won't let me share spoilers, but Summer was incredible in this film as a mensa- level cheerleader who convinces Ms Darbus not to retire in the last five minutes of the film. What!"
"Thank you, couch, I got to go." Summer says, before running off.
"Summer, honey, you were so radiant during the song today." Alyson Reed tells her, stopping her briefly. "All through the whole movie. Dare I say it, a star is born."
"You're the best. But, I've got to run. I've got to get to rehearsals." Summer says.
Alyson blows her a kiss, before Summer walks ahead. Meeting up with Ricky who links arms with her.
"Hey sweetie." Ricky says kissing her. "You killed it in there."
"Featured background number two, I think I'll miss you and her nerdy look most of all." Summer tells him. "You didn't have a problem with me kissing a certain 2010's TV star during the reunion song, though?"
"The only 2010's TV star I'm threatened by is Dax Shepard." Ricky says, causing Summer to laugh. "And I'm pretty sure, he lives in the attic now. You ready to rehearse 'High School Musical 3'?"
"It's now or never." Summer says, grabbing his hand before they run off. After getting out of costume the couple rush into the rehearsal room hand in hand. Their laughter abruptly stops when they see no one but Miss Jenn there.
"Wait, Miss Jenn. Why is the rehearsal room empty?" Summer asks.
"Well, we had to have this conversation eventually." Miss Jenn says, walking over to the couple. "Much like my mother's problematic Twitter account, 'High School Musical 3' is cancelled. The drama department is on pause."
"On pause? What does that even mean?" Ricky asks.
"No one showed up for the act one run through yesterday expect for Ellie and Emmy. But I'm starting to think Emmy is the ghost of a small Victorian child." Miss Jenn says.
"So you're cancelling the show, because we missed one rehearsal?" Ricky asks.
"Half the cast have been missing half the rehearsals, Ricky." Miss Jenn tells him. "Principal Gutierrez made the decision. It is final. We are not allowed to have this club anymore. It is okay, you guys. You have so much to celebrate. You just wrapped a movie. And this, all of this... it was always just a high school musical."
Summer and Ricky look at each other as Summer holds Ricky's arm tightly. To them none of this was just a high school musical, ever. It's what brought them back together as friends, what brought them together as a couple. Without the Drama department. Without Miss Jenn. They wouldn't be the Summer and Ricky they are today.
"Miss Jenn..." Summer says quietly.
"And today, you begin moving on to even bigger things." Miss Jenn adds, to her previous statement.
The others then rush in.
"Okay, what happened?" Ashlyn asks.
"Who died?" Kourtney questions.
"Will there be an estate sale?" Carlos asks, causing Ellie to lightly hit him.
"Technically a human didn't die." Miss Jenn says.
"You texted us 'There's been a death'." Maddox says.
"there has been. Our drama club." Ricky tells them.
"We don't have a drama club anymore?" Alice asks.
"This is why I kept texting you guys that the drama club was cancelled." Ellie says.
"All I got was a bunch of symbols." Carlos says.
"That's because Emmy taught me how to write a message as encrypted." Ellie says.
"You guys, our department is about to go extinct because none of you expect for Ellie and Emmy showed up for rehearsals." Ricky says.
"Excuse me. You weren't here either." Kourtney points out.
"I had an an existential crisis about my future." Ricky responds.
"Okay, we'll I was in Georgia weighing out my options." Kourtney says.
"I was placing a very confusing phone call." Ashlyn says.
"I was incredibly busy being betrayed." Carlos adds.
"Wait, Big Red told me the kiss was just an accident." Ashlyn tells him.
"I thought you broke up with him because you were so traumatised." Carlos says.
"No, we actually had the most chill break up of all time. We went to Walgreens after we both needed Lactaid pills." Ashlyn explains.
"Wait, so your single again?" Maddox asks. There was an awkward silence. "And Emmy, your single to. And Jet. Miss Jenn. Just naming all the single people."
"I got your text about something being dead." Mr Mazzara says rushing in. "You look alive."
"I am. Kind of." Miss Jenn says. "So, is it true?"
"It is. Principal Gutierrez gave your funding to my department. And yes, I have already spent the money on laptops for the local orphanage." Mr Mazzara tells the group, causing Maddox to laugh thinking he was joking.
"Oh, you aren't kidding." Maddox says.
"He's never kidding, dear." Miss Jenn tells her.
" What's the big deal if we don't have the money?" Gina asks.
"Gina, honey, it means we don't have the budget to make costumes or build sets." Miss Jenn says. "'High School Musical 3' is a complicated 2008 period piece."
"Why don't we by Obama yard signs and print out articles about the recession?" Ricky suggests.
Everyone starts taking over one and other.
"Wildcats. Wildcats. If there's anything I have learned during my many years in the theater, it's knowing when to enter and when to exit." Miss Jenn says. "Today we do the latter."
"Would you guys, um... excuse me?" Emmy asks, as she wipes her eyes before leaving.
"I made a child cry today." Miss Jenn says.
"Last summer changed her life. She literally left home school to be here with all her new big brothers and sisters." Stephanie says.
"Her biggest dream was to sing at East High." Ellie says. "That's something we had in common."
"It was also her biggest fear." Jet says. "Yeah, she told me that."
"Okay, well you aren't gonna get very far in life. If you go around being afraid all the time." Kourtney says, causing Summer to have an idea.
"Then why do you look like your about to cry?" Ricky asks.
"I'm just saying, if you live your life in fear. That's gonna be a lot of stuff to be afraid of." Kourtney tells them.
"Sounds like the exact opposite of where you were last year." Ashlyn says.
"Okay, We are not going to go there." Kourtney says.
"No going to go where?" Ricky asks.
"Ashlyn it's just a stupid story." Kourtney says.
"If all of this is truly over... let me be sentimental for one minute, Kourtney." Ashlyn says.
"Yeah, yeah. Tell us the story Ash."
