CHAPTER 27

One thing Donato had been right about was that new Families were indeed rising out of the ground. Italians didn't have the monopoly anymore. Russians and Scottish families were now in the game as well.

The Petrov Family was fairly new, but they were getting known for their ruthlessness and muscle instead of their business smarts. They were more into offering protection from other Families than turning a profit from a business.

One name that kept being thrown around had been the McBane Family. They were new in the States but not in Scotland.

Gia's curiosity piqued when she heard from Roger that Kade McBane was a serious businessman that was looking to meet with the Benedetti Family Boss. He hadn't heard that Giada was the Boss which led her to believe that he was fairly new in New York.

It wasn't screamed to the four winds of her existence either, but anyone that was anyone in New York had gotten wind of who Giada Benedetti was. Not many had made the connection between Gia Summers and Giada Benedetti, though, but she was sure that it wouldn't be long.

"I have your files ready, and I also have a request for a sit down with the Family Boss," Roger said as he strode inside Gia's office.

Gia looked up from the papers she was going over and smiled at him. "Okay, refresh my memory on which files and who wants a sit down?"

Roger took a seat in a chair in front of her desk and leaned back comfortably after placing the files in front of Gia. "You have five men that I think you will like and perhaps approve on. All clean, all part of the Family and all loyal to you. No current relationships and no past baby-mommas to deal with either."

Gia took the files and set them aside for later viewing. She wasn't in the mood at the moment and every day that passed that Gio was not with her, was not a good day for her. She was still hung up on the man and she still had the hope that she might get pregnant from the last time he had been with her. She wasn't a fool; she was well aware of the rumors flying around and the danger her Family was in.

"Tell me more about who wants a sit down with me."

Roger pointed to the other file he had placed on her desk. "It's there. Kade McBane is new to New York and is looking to invest in new businesses and wants to form a bond with the Benedetti Family."

"Just like that?" She huffed incredulously. "And what makes him think that I want to form a bond with his Family? What the hell could they possibly have that interests me?"

"Numbers," Roger said.

Gia raised an eyebrow in question not understanding him. "What do you mean by numbers?"

"I mean numbers as in crew. They are an extremely large Family, and they are not looking to become powerful. It seems that McBane is looking more for a place for his Family and a way to reap the benefits as well."

"The Benedetti Family is large in numbers as well. Bigger than the Drago Family and many other Families in the country," Gia argued.

Roger stood up and walked over to the glass wall and let out a sigh. He didn't want to have to broach the subject, but he was forced to. With Gio out of the picture, and the protection of the Drago Family gone, the Benedetti Family was being targeted and Gia was well aware of that, but still hadn't made up her mind on what to do. The longer she took, the greater the risk for the Family.

"I don't know how long we have before we start getting challenged for territory. We have numbers that's true but nowhere near enough to deal with a full-blown war if it came down to that and it will come down to that sooner than you think, Gia. You have to make a choice and you have to make it now. It's either go back with your tail between your legs to the Drago's or take the sit down and consider what McBane has to offer. You can worry about an heir later. Right now, you have to secure your place and make it known that you are in fact stronger in numbers."
