LEAH TOOK A deep breath before the elevator doors finally opened. she hesitated for a moment before stepping out. it had been a little over a month later now, and leah was focused hard on finishing school. although she technically had a few weeks left of school, she got out early on account of exceptional work and a letter from hotch stating their situation. and now, she was here for her first day, and leah was as nervous as ever.
hotch told leah to keep quiet about it, since he wouldn't be telling the team members until her first day. she had found out she would be joining today only five days ago, and with leah's budding friendship with derek morgan, hotch didn't want him to find out and spill to the rest of the team. she looked around to see some familiar faces- not people that she knew personally, like derek, but just agents she recognized from the day a few weeks ago from when she was shot.
"excuse me," a blonde woman walked over to her, "can i help you?"
"oh," leah responded nervously. "yeah, um, do you know where i can find aar- agent hotchner?" the woman opened her mouth to answer, but before she could, leah heard "leah gray! there you are."
she turned her head to the side to see hotch making his way towards her. she smiled at him. "jj, this is agent leah gray, the one i informed you about a bit ago." "oh!" jj looked surprised. "i thought she still had a few more weeks of schooling left!"
"i talked to strauss and she told me to give her the job. leah, this is jennifer jareau."
"please," the woman stuck her hand out for leah to shake. "call me jj." "it's so nice to meet you," leah accepted her handshake, smiling at her. "i can take you around and introduce you to the rest of the team if you'd like, and then i'll give you some paperwork you need to fill out."
"sounds great, lead the way."
her and jj walked towards an array of desks, only one being occupied at the time by a dark haired woman. "this is agent emily prentiss," jj said, causing the woman to turn her head at the two. "emily, this is-"
"oh, leah gray!" emily stood up with a smile, looking at the new woman in front of her. "morgan's told me a lot about you! he wasn't kidding when he said you were gorgeous."
leah opened her mouth to respond, but nothing came out as her face turned bright red. "t-thank you. sorry, wow, i'm usually not this nervous. it's nice to meet you." leah stuck her hand out to emily.
emily laughed with a smirk on her face as she accepted the handshake. this was going to be fun.
"what are you doing here, leah?" a voice behind leah spoke. she turned around to see derek standing there with a coffee in hand.
"i work here, derek. that's agent gray to you."
leah would pay to see derek's face after she said that just one more time. he was so surprised, enlightened by the news. he congratulated her with a tight hug. "okay, enough," leah said, letting go of derek. "i have more people to meet."
"angel face!" a voice called. "you never came back to the break r-" the woman finally looked up, seeing leah. "who's this?"
"babygirl," derek started. "this is agent leah gray." "oh, hi! i'd shake your hand but they're um, pretty full right now." she motioned her head to her arms which held loads of papers and folders. "it's not a problem," leah smiled. "it's nice to meet you, and your name is...?"
"oh, penelope garcia, the best in the business!" "that she is," derek chimed in. "the apple of my eye." "and you're the light of my life1" "hey, behave yourself, there's people present." "or what, you'll spank me?"
derek looked awkward, as did a few others in the room.
leah simply laughed. "you're the girl version of him. we'll get along just fine." "i think so too! come, i'll take you to the break room." leah followed garcia, saying goodbye to the other people she had met. "i like her," emily told derek. he turned to look at her, "don't get any ideas."
there was a man already in the break room, making a cup of coffee. "hey, boy wonder!" garcia said to the man across the room. the man turned around and looked at the two, and it was revealed to leah that the "boy wonder" in question was spencer reid. he was at a loss for words for some reason, he opened his mouth as if to say something, but nothing came out.
"surprise!" leah walked up to him excitedly, "long story short, hotch talked to his boss and gave me the job before i finished schooling-"
"it's great to see you," spencer said, cutting her off. "sorry, i didn't mean to cut you off, that was just a really delayed reaction." leah laughed, looking down and shaking her head. "no worries, boy wonder," she teased. he turned red.
"oh, you two know each other already?" garcia asked. "oh yeah," leah started. "interrogation room, hospital room, derek morgan's living room. it's been a while though, huh? a month or so?"
"five weeks and 3 days," spencer said. "there's that brain of yours i adore so much!" leah laughed.
he pursed his lips into a smile and looked down. "well, i gotta get back to my paperwork," he said, picking up his cup of coffee. he walked closer to leah and stopped right in front of her. "welcome to the team." and strolled off.
leah was frozen in her place. he had gotten pretty close. relating to him earlier, she was at a loss for words. "can't wait to see what becomes of that," garcia teased. leah turned to look at her. "like i said earlier, you're a female derek."
garcia took leah to her lair, showing her all the gizmos she had on her desk, and leah loved every single one, admiring her.
"so, what do you think so far of everything, my love?" garcia asked.
leah smiled and took a really deep breath in. "i'm terrified."
