"Luna!" He rolled his eyes at the little girl's excited voice like this was the first time she had ever called my name.
"Yes Zoe, I have Luna and you have Chloe, like everyday." The little girl squealed as they sat in front of the same old doll house, Chloe in Zoe's hand and myself in Luke's, making him place his phone on the ground.
"Story today?" Zoe questioned, looking up as she mindlessly brushed Chloe's hair down.
"Sure. What kind would you like to do?"
"Love!" Luke smiled, like he always did, and cleared his throat.
"Once upon a time, there were two best friends that were princesses named Chloe and Luna. They loved each other very much and hung out almost every day. But Chloe found a prince charming- you shouldn't be having one of those for a very long time." He stopped and eye balled Zoe who giggled. "So Luna got lonely." I was moved to a fake bench as he sat me down. His fingers played with my hair as he continued.
"Luna was very, very sad. She felt like she had no one and had lost her best friend."
"Like you?" Luke stopped speaking when Zoe said those words. His blue eyes looked pained as he tried to smile.
"I'm not sad Zoe. And I have a best friend. It's just a story, remember?" She nodded her head and put Chloe and another guy doll inside the house.
"Go." She spoke, sitting cross legged next to her older cousin.
"So one day, Luna met a guy. And he was very nice to her and made her laugh and took her on dates and soon, Luna had fell in love with him before knowing he was actually a prince! And he had fell in love with her."
"Not alone!" Zoe clapped her hands, smiling big.
"Exactly! See Zoe, all she had to do was wait. Whenever you feel sad and alone, just wait. Someone will come around and make your day all better. So when Luna and the prince fell in love, Chloe came back with her own prince, and they all got to hang out in the end! So everyone was happy." Luke grinned, hearing a set of foot steps from the ladder.
"Luke? Zoe? Are you two in the attic again?" It sounded like Luke's mom, Liz.
"Yes!" Luke called back as he got up and brushed off his pants. He helped Zoe to her feet, kneeling down to make sure she didn't have any dust on her new dress.
"Let's go, the party's about to start!"
"Coming!" He sighed and looked back at the doll house before heading to the opening in the ground.
"Lukey." Zoe said quietly. He turned to face her and asked what was wrong. "Nothing. Happy birthday." Luke smiled and grabbed her hand.
"Thank you Zoe, let's go get some cake."
Alone in the attic with "Chloe," I felt my arms start to ache. I can't move, for the sheer fact that I'm a doll. But now I feel like my legs are growing. My head is pounding and I can feel the ground beneath me. The bench starts to hurt and when I try to move from the pain, I feel myself lunge forward. Quickly, almost all at once, my body had grown and I was on actual hands and knees. I could lift my head and blinked, scaring myself for a moment. I turned and looked behind me to see the doll house as just a... doll house. I was too big to fit inside now. Chloe was only a bit bigger than my hand. I was life size now and how this happened, I didn't know.
"Hold on, I think I left my phone up there!" I felt my eyes widened and quickly tried to get up, almost falling over onto the doll house. My legs were shaky, knees wobbly, but I managed to get behind a curtain that covered a window. I peeked around the fabric as I saw Luke come into the attic. He looked around frantically, turning around and almost tripping over his own feet like the giant noodle he is.
"Where are you.." He muttered to himself, kneeling down in front of the doll house. Picking up Chloe, he shook his head and laughed to himself. But putting her back, he looked around questionably. "Wait," He stopped, picking up his phone. "I knew it was in here somewhere!"
My blouse brushed against an old box and a cloud of dust circled around my face, making me sneeze. Luke quickly stood up, turning around with a frightened expression.
"Who's there?!" He called out, walking towards the other end of the attic. I covered my mouth to keep from making noise as my legs continued to feel like jell-o, but the dust had made its way into what I had learned to be, my lungs, and now I felt the need to cough.
"Come out now and maybe I won't hurt you!" At this point, my body crumbled to the floor beneath me and I became visible from my hiding spot. Luke jumped at the sight of me and squinted his eyes, utterly confused.
"Wait, don't I know you? Aren't you-" And Luke fell to the floor, phone falling out of his hand as he passed out.
"Lukey!" Oh no, Zoe. Little foot steps were heard until I saw her standing there. My body became stiff and we stared at each other for a while. "Luna?" She said my name before looking over at Luke and running to him.
"Lukey? Lukey!" She shook him violently and when he didn't wake up, she ran back downstairs to tell everyone else.
I felt my eyes start to get heavy and I didn't know if this was because I was tired or drained from everything that had happened. But soon enough, the last thing I saw was Zoe coming back with an older woman who was on the phone and saying "send help."
