19.| another day

Michael and I sat criss crossed on his bed, facing each other as we shared a medium pizza, music playing from the paused video game on his television. It was two days after the incident with Alexandra, and Luke had been blowing up my phone like crazy after hearing about what had happened from Edward. I couldn't think straight anymore, between work, Alexandra, and Luke, my mind was a jumbled mess that I just wanted to clear.

"How many was that?" He mumbled, a pizza in each hand. I realized he had taken one more slice than he was supposed to but I just shook my head.

"Five but it's okay, I'm not that hungry." Michael shrugged, finishing off the two slices with ease before a door bell made us both jump. Michael rolled his eyes at the sound and got up, swallowing whatever cheesy goodness was in his mouth.

"I'll get it, it's probably my mum with groceries." I replied with a small 'okay', grabbing the remote and muting the television as I closed the pizza box and set it on the floor beside the bed. Turning around and looking at the opened door, I didn't hear anything like bags or the door even opening. That was, until I heard strumming from a guitar. It was playing a song I couldn't recognize, and as I got up from the bed, I could see Luke with an acoustic guitar around his neck, held delicately in his hands as he played it, Michael right on his heels.

"Another day and I'm somewhere new. I made a promise that I'll come home soon. Bring me back, bring me back to you." Luke sang the words to me, Michael backing him up during the chorus, as they both finished the song. My heart was racing, blood coursing through my veins at a rate that I was sure wouldn't be considered normal. Luke's hands dropped from the guitar, letting it hang in front of him as he spoke next. "Can we talk?" I couldn't help but spot that spark of hope in his beautiful baby blue's, my body frozen to the spot in Michael's room. Nodding, Michael passed Luke to get into his room.

"Just go to my man cave," He spoke to Luke first before turning to me, placing his hands on my arms and looking deeply into my eyes with those pretty light green ones of his. "Talk to him. Resolve this. If you need me, I'll be right here." I nodded and followed Luke out of the room as he easily lifted the guitar over his head, but kept his fist around the fret as we entered the room I had been sleeping in for the past week and a half.

"I, uh, got this for you." He was holding out the guitar awkwardly at arm's length and I took it from him almost immediately.

"I don't play." My words were a lot colder than I had suspected them to be. In all honestly, I missed Luke and was very happy to see him. Though, he looked completely miserable. His hair was messy and looked dirty, and dark circles accompanied those, once bright, blue eyes. The beard he was too lazy to shave showed obvious neglect and I longed to wrap my arms around his neck and kiss his stupid full pink lips.

"I know. I was going to wait to surprise you with it. I thought I could teach you sometime." His eyes fell to his feet as he shoved his hands into the front pockets of his jeans, his shoulders slumping slightly. Walking to the couch, I laid the guitar gently next to the cushions and watched how Luke hadn't moved from his spot.

"Thank you." I decided to say, keeping my arms wrapped around my chest. Michael's house was always at a freezing temperature but it had been so hot outside from hanging with Calum earlier, that I hadn't bothered changing from my jean shorts and black tank top.

"I, uh, you read my messages, right?" I merely nodded, recalling his waves of panic after the cat fight. Taking a deep breath, I could almost feel Alexandra's face under my knuckles from repeatedly punching her, the bruises on my pale hands the only marks from my victory. "Did she touch you?" I scoffed at his question, a smirk growing on my face.

"As if." I finally saw a smile break out onto Luke's face as his eyes met mine and he ran a hand through his blonde hair.

"That's my girl." At the words, my heart dropped and memories of the night he told me him and Alexandra slept together started to flood through my head. I could almost feel the unwanted tears beginning to form and he automatically realized what was happening. "Luna, I'm so sorry." His voice cracked on the last word and I couldn't meet his eyes this time. I had been the one holding it together this entire time but as of right now, I didn't think looking at those small pools of water he had for eyes would help. "It was a mistake. I was drinking and she came onto me. I just - it had been a long time since I had done it and I know that's no excuse, but it's been eating me alive since you left and I just really miss my baby girl." I almost choked at the sound of his pet name, my hand flying up to my mouth as I felt the warm tears rolling down my cheeks.

"Stop saying that." I whispered, I probably looked like a mess and could feel the heat rising to my cheeks as my chest tightened.

"Babe, please. I can make it up, just give me a chance." I saw that he had gotten closer, repeating what Michael had done in the other room, as he placed his hands on my arms, squeezing them lightly. A sob escaped my throat and I felt a hiccup coming on as Luke watched me fall apart in front of him. "I didn't realize how much damage I had done, I'm so very, very sorry." Then, he was all around me. Luke had wrapped me in his arms, holding me against his chest as his broad shoulders hid the room from my eyes. They were closed anyway, in an attempt to stop the tears that were falling, as he repeatedly kissed the top of my head and forehead. We stood like this for a while, before I finally managed to pull away. I used the back of my hand to wipe away the final set of water works as Luke took my hand into his, rubbing the knuckles with his thumb carefully.

"It doesn't hurt." My voice was low, I almost didn't hear myself say them, but Luke did, as he lifted my hand to his lips and kissed each knuckle lovingly.

"I've been applying for different jobs in the mall. As much as I love working at Morty's Dining, I don't want to be there with Alexandra." Our hands fell, but he intertwined our fingers together, not wanting to let go. "And today," he looked up shyly, and I could feel the butterflies in my stomach forming. "I got a call saying I was hired at the Pandora on level four. Say hello to the newest sales executive." His face was in a grin now, though his eyes were puffy from obvious crying beforehand, he was now smiling, showing his two rows of white teeth, the black lip ring shifting as he couldn't hold in the excitement.

"That's amazing, I'm so proud of you." I returned his smile with one of my own and he nodded, his eyes wandering on my face.

"The pay is much better and my hours are pretty straight forward. We could actually plan dates without them getting shitted on and I'll be able to buy you more things."

"Dates?" Questioning him, his face fell slightly as a line of worry became visible between his eyebrows.

"Well, yeah. That's what boyfriends and girlfriends do. They go on dates."

"Look, Luke.." I trailed off but he already knew what I was about to say.

"No, please don't." He grabbed my other hand and was holding them both up between the two of us. "Luna, I am begging you. Let me try again. We can start over." But I wasn't quite convinced yet, biting on the inside of my bottom lip as he tried to win me back. I had to admit, it was sort of working, but after the whole shebang with Alex, I felt emotionally drained.

"I don't know-" He cut me off quickly, his words taking me, and himself, off guard.

"Luna, I love you."
