It took a very long time for Riel to reawaken. He didn't feel as light as he was as a soul, so he assumed that the transmigration was successful and he was in some new body.
That fact alone made him feel deep rage, and he cursed the god out in every language he knew in his head. He had sparse knowledge of the subject thanks to Asao's ramblings, but that was it. What even was this? Where was he?!
It felt like he hadn't left his body at all, it was in constant pain and lethargy. He hated pain, and he hated feeling restless.
'Where was the warning?! How can a god not know the simplest thing about the soul he personally wronged? I've never watched television for entertainment! I watched the news! I read textbooks, not manga! There were the occasional novels here and there, but they were paperback literary pieces! Heck, I even read musical notation since I had instruments! How do you not know this, you stupid god?!'
The god was deeper into the ground, still pristine in dogeza stature within the dimension Riel had been forced to leave. Even though he could no longer hear or see him, he could somehow feel that the god was repeatedly apologizing for his blunder, assuring that everything would get better and to trust him just once more.
Riel blearily opened his eyes. Everything was spinning, and his limbs felt like lead. That must mean it was Tuesday. Those were always days he was worse off than others.
He just wanted to sleep, closing his eyes again. Why couldn't he just stay in that space? While he was still tired, he didn't feel pain anymore. He's been alive for a few minutes and he was already dying.
His life had ended, didn't it? He didn't need a second, tiresome life to live. In the short moments he was dead he relished in the fact that it didn't take so much work to breathe. This wasn't the world he grew up in. His friends weren't here. His adoptive parents weren't here. The kids from the orphanage he took care of weren't here.
There was nothing for him to even attempt to live for here.
But Riel couldn't stop himself from taking a breath, from struggling to keep himself together. He couldn't resist the urge to fight for every second.
He was too used to fighting in this way.
'How tiresome.'
Just then, he heard an odd voice in his head.
[Soul Assimilation: Successful.]
"Ugh...?" 'What the hell was that? Who are you? Am I dying again?'
[Not yet, host. You are not dying. Though your lifeforce is indeed shortening by the moment. It is okay to think about what you would like to say. As I am a part of you now, I can comprehend your thoughts.]
'Whatever happened made it too tiresome for me to speak anyway.' Riel thought, quick on the uptake. 'I'm guessing that you are that system that the stupid god was ranting about?'
[Yes. Hello, Master Riel, I am the Dimension Integration Transference System, "Dimitra" for short. Master Damio created me to assist in your soul's healing.]
After a moment, the monotone voice continued, [Congratulations on entering a new life.]
'I hate this.' He thought bluntly. 'Why does it feel like I'm two steps away from dying again?'
[Your body is experiencing the drawbacks of your soul-body deficit, as you experienced in your past life. Even if this body is a much lesser grade than the one you had then, your soul is still too weak for it.]
He sighed at that, 'As of right now, how long do I have?'
[ If you were to try living a full life in this world, you would be able to last until you were 20. That will be the limit of how much I can heal you in this world before we must move on. The more tasks you complete, however, the stronger I will be, and I can extend your lifespan and shorten your healing time.]
