It had been several days since that incident, and things had, for the most part, returned to normal.
Riel had taken another few days of sick leave after he'd had his talk with Haruhi. Which, by the way, none of the other hosts had any clue about. Even Kyoya was in the dark, unable to snoop out any valuable information aside from the fact they'd gone to the garden, and that their conversation was very important.
"I don't dare get any closer to the prince than seeing distance when his knights stand guard." One of his regulars, a tutored student under Riel's expert guidance, told him. "It's a rule to leave him alone."
"His... "knights"?"
"Yes!" The girl stated, sighing dreamily, "Lady Tsubomi, Lady Minori, and the Dhalia twins, Ladies Sumi and Suki. We like to call them his "Flower Knights" since they're most often in the garden, plus, their gorgeous."
"When did they start doing this? Has this always been a thing?"
"Well, no, not exactly." The girl proceeded to explain to the attentive Kyoya how the Flower Knights protected their prince.
They could not be with him at the same time, so they utilized their different schedules so that at least two of them would be near the prince at all times. However, it was a bit complicated to get all of the little details since Riel rarely stays in a single class. Because of his advanced knowledge and the help he's given many students, Riel doesn't even have a real schedule anymore. He goes to different classes at his leisure, soaking up all of the knowledge he could find.
But they managed to make it work out... somehow.
As they began doing this, more students joined their cause, becoming what they liked to call "The Garden Brigade". Each Knight had a squad of their own, usually students that shared classes with them. As time went on, the brigade grew larger. Riel didn't know it was his natural charm that reeled them all in.
While one Flower Knight stays with Riel, the designated pillow of the day, the other knight stands guard. One of their squads would patrol the area, relaying information on any unsavory person they see. Those few are dealt with swiftly and silently, the peaceful Prince none the wiser.
This was only when all four of them couldn't be together in the garden. Though now, this is done during his hosting time as well, since they can come to see him more often.
To an outsider, it looks normal. Students going to class, a girl offering her lap to a tired Riel, and simple picnics in the garden. No one would know the truth unless told.
"I'm only telling you because the Knights gave their okay on it." She said resolutely. "Otherwise, you would never know. Sorry."
"That... fine, thank you for telling me." It was shocking to Kyoya. While not as narcissistic as Tamaki, he took pride in his looks and how he could sway others into giving him information with it. The fact that this subtle tactic would not work in this case intrigued him greatly. "Does Riel know about this?"
"Of course he does. They told him the minute they decided on it." Going behind his back to do this was another taboo to the knights, so when they decided to go through with their plan, they told their prince. "He was thankful they'd go so far to make his days peaceful."
It was after the Ayanowhatsit situation. His four regulars, Tsubomi, Minori, and the Dhalia twins felt horrible that something like that had happened to him. Before he was a host, they saw him as a friend. He'd helped them in so many ways, and made their school lives more interesting.
So keeping him safe and happy just seemed like the natural thing to do.
Riel, wanting nothing more than a peaceful time to relax, read his books, and sleep, accepted this offer. He did not like burdening others, but at their assurance, he decided to let them do what they wanted.
