adri's pov

after about 10 seconds, i realized what we were doing. i pulled away softly. i cleared my throat and looked at the ground.

"i think i should go inside now" i said, avoiding eye contact. "uhh, are we not goin' to talk about what just hap--" i cut him off. "what do you mean? nothing happened" i said, obviously in denial. i got up to leave without another word.

what the hell did i just do?

it was like something came over me. i'm afraid to admit myself that i didn't hate it, though. i walked to the kitchen and grabbed a drink. soon, oakley entered the house as well. i remained quiet.

oak left down the hall, presumably to say bye to my grandmother. a minute later, he came back out. oakley looked at me. without saying anything, he left. i let out a deep breath.

"adriana..." i heard my grandma say, coming from the hallway. "yes?" i answered. "what did you do to that boy?" she asked, hands on hips. i glanced away, confused. "what do you mean?" i asked her.

"oakley came into my room just now, he seemed very quiet. different than usual" she said. i didn't want to tell her about the kiss. i shrugged, "i don't know."

"whatever you said to him, apologize" she demanded. my lips parted. "i didn't do anything, though" i sassed. "i see you guys fight all the time, don't act like i haven't noticed" my grandma said sternly.

i wasn't going to apologize, though. i didn't say anything to him to make him upset like that. at least i don't think. my grandma walked away and back into her room. i followed her, but returned to my old room. i needed to change out of these clothes.

monday came around, which i dreaded. i met up with drea in passing period and we both talked about our weekend. "ricky is so amazing..." drea dreamily sighed. bruh, she makes me feel so single.

"so what'd you do over the weekend?" drea asked, holding onto her gym bag. suddenly, every memory with oakley flooded my mind. the kiss. i cleared my throat, "nothing really."

me and drea headed to locker room to change for p.e. we changed into our schools grey physical education shirts, along with black nike pros.

i tied my hair in a ponytail and me and drea began running the track. after a lap, we stopped to take a breath. drea perked up, i turned to see what she saw. ugh. ricky and oakley, talking on the bleachers.

drea jogged over to them. so naturally, i followed. ricky walked down the bleachers to meet her half way and they hugged. awe. so cute. i stood there, arms crossed, letting my bestie have her time with her boyfriend.

oakley stayed on the bleachers, on his phone, seemingly ignoring my existence. what were they even doing here? they're not in this period. ricky and drea pulled away, yet she never left his side. "hello adriana" ricky greeted with a salute. i offered a polite smile, "ricky."

my eyes looked up to oakley. "aye man" ricky said, getting oakley's attention. he motioned his head toward my direction and oakley was stone faced. "adriana" oakley said, dryly. i plastered a sarcastic smile in return.

"y'all so awkward, damn" ricky laughed, causing drea to follow. my face grew red. "we all should go on a double date" drea insisted, with a cheesy smile. ricky looked down at her. "yeah, we should" ricky replied. oakley looked at me, almost trying to hide a smile.

i stayed quiet. "okay, so tonight, my place" drea perked up. i glanced back to oakley. his tattooed arms crossed over his chest. he looked down at the ground, almost as if he was trying to be mysterious. he swears he's so tough.

i heard a whistle blow, "TORRES, THOMPSON, GET YOUR BEHINDS BACK TO THE TRACK NOW" our cheerleading coach shouted. "c'mon drea" i said, taking a few steps back. drea said bye to her man and we both ran back with the rest of our class.

oakley's pov

after ricky's girl suggested a double date, i felt funny inside. i haven't been on a proper date in almost... never. i don't take women seriously like that. i have to admit though, i wasn't opposing the idea of spending more time with adri.

something about her. she seems so unattainable. i like that about her.

except on saturday when she refused to acknowledge that we had kissed. not going to lie, that was kind of bugging me even today.

"so, you think you're down for that date?" ricky asked, pulling out his pen to take a quick hit. i smirked. "seems a bit fun innit" my eyes never left adriana on the track.

do i like her? probably. probably not. too early to tell. i don't fall easily but when i do... i simp hard. "look, there's jason" ricky said. i had a deal to sell some to a kid in a lower grade. like i said, i'm tryna get into selling.

the kid approached the bleachers. he looked nervous as hell. totally not making it obvious. we dapped each other up and he slid me some cash while i placed an .8 in his hand. i tucked the cash in my pocket.

"alright, let's go."

the day grew later and i was already with ricky on the way to his girls house. nervous? nah. what happens happens. i already see adriana on the weekends.

we entered drea's house and were greeted with the two girls from earlier. i looked at adriana and i tried my hardest not to smile. i took a deep breath. she smiled at me, "hey." "hey.." i replied, a bit more shy than intended. fuck.

after a while we all settled in, but it was kinda awkward to be quite honest. "did you guys want to order food?" drea asked. before i could say anything, adriana spoke up. "actually, me and oakley were kinda thinking of going to pick something up" she said. shit, we were?

she glanced at me with widened eyes, almost trying to signal me something. "uhh, yeah we were" i said, going along with her notion. "oh, okay, well you guys have fun" drea said. adriana grabbed her keys, "lets go."

we exited the house and i was still confused. we walked over to adriana's corvette and we both got inside the car. "did you really want to get somethin' to eat?" i asked. she looked at me hiding a laugh. "i kinda just thought it was awkward being around a couple when we're not, y'know..."

i nodded my head. "got it." why did i think it was because she wanted to be alone with me. my chest stung, but whatever.

"but i am hungry, so lets go somewhere, i know a place."
