oakley's pov

adriana pulled up to a restaurant and i didn't recognize it. something new, i guess. she parked her car and before she could open her door, i stopped her. "wait" i held my hand in front of her. i got out the car and opened her door for her.

"thank you" she thanked me. as we went inside the restaurant, i was welcomed with the warm smell of fried chicken. we both looked at the menu behind the cashier. "do you know what you're gonna want?" adriana asked me, squinting her eyes at the menu. this girl blind fr.

"i've never been here, so not really" i stated. adriana's face lit up, "you've never been to raising canes?" she asked, almost shocked. "yeah" i replied. she bit her lip, excited.

"i got you" she simply said. we were up next and she ordered for the both of us. why did i kind of like that she ordered for me? i like a woman that takes initiative.

we went to go sit and wait for the food. adriana looked at me and smiled. "what?" i asked, curiously. "nothing" she replied. a small smirk crept along my face. i was so nervous deep down. not sure for what though.

"so just so we're clear... this isn't a legitimate date, right?" adriana asked me.

"it's whatever you want it to be" i replied. shit, i was chillin.

our order was shouted out and adriana went to get it. she came back and placed the food in front of us. "damn" i looked down at the delicious looking chicken strips in front of me.

"you try it first" adriana told me. i looked at her a bit suspicious but gave in. i took a bite of a chicken strip and immediately i melted into every bite. "delicious" i muttered under my breath. "right?" she took a bite of her food as well.

"i didn't know if you'd like it or not" she told me. "it's hittin' to be honest" i stated, scarfing down a few crisps. she looked down and smiled.

adriana's pov

it was weird. sitting here with oakley felt.. good. like i can't even remember why i hated him so much before. i took a sip of my drink.

i didn't really want this to be a date. i kinda just agreed to come because i know drea's man is friends with oakley, and i'm friends with drea, obviously. i wanted to call a truce.

from the corner of my eye i saw johnny and his friends walk in the restaurant. oh my god. i straightened my posture and fixed my hair. oakley noticed my demeanor and turned around to see what happened.

oakley laughed. "that's your man innit" he took a bite of a fry. "no" i said blankly. "you want him though" oak sat back in his chair. "maybe" i replied. i mean, no hard feelings right?

"then go after him, fuck it" oakley said. i shrugged. "hmm... i'm not that type of girl" i said before i ate a piece of chicken. as i looked at johnny, we made eye contact. oh oh oh.

before i knew it, johnny and a few of his friends approached us. "hey adri" johnny said, drink in hand. the rest of his friends just minded their own business. "hey johnny" i said. "octavius, right?" johnny raised a brow at oakley.

"yeah sure" oakley replied. "wanna come with me and my homies adri? we're going to six flags" johnny asked me. my eyes widened. no way he had the audacity and just said that in front of oakley.

i glanced at oakley. he looked irritated. "nah i'm actually a bit busy right now, sorry johnny" i said. johnny pursed his lips. "whatever you say adri" johnny said before walking off with his friends.

i looked down. "why'd you do that?" oakley asked. he looked genuinely surprised. why did it do it? i'm not that shitty and stuck up girl everyone makes me out to be. leaving with a guy after i'm clearly with a friend would be so fucked.

wait, did i just call oakley a friend? barf. but he's actually really cool. and i wanted to spend more time with him. i smiled and shrugged. "i had better plans" i said. oakley smirked and fixed his hat. "you're funny, y'know that" oak said.

after we finished eating i drove us back home. neither of us wanted to go inside drea's house, it was like an unspoken agreement we wanted to both be alone with each other. we stood outside, leaning on my car.

the only lights we had were the street lamps that were garnered down drea's street and the glistening moonlight from above. crickets chirped. this was better than any real date i've been on.

we started talking about our backgrounds. sure enough our family's got brought up. "i think everyone at school knows you're a bit rich, huh" oakley said. i chuckled. "i'm not rich" i put air quotations around the word 'rich'.

oakley dramatically turned to look at my car. "stop" i laughed. "it's not my money, it's my fathers money. i don't know if you knew this but he's a really big lawyer for the state" i said. "i'm really blessed to have a hardworking father. i don't even get to see him 90 percent of the time because his work."

oakley nodded. he's a really attentive listener. i like that about him, a lot. "well what about your mum?" oakley asked. i stayed quiet, trying to figure out what to say or how to say it. she's passed. "uhhh.." i started.

"too personal?" oakley interrupted me. i nodded my head, "yeah." i cleared my throat, changing the subject. "what about you?" i asked him. oakley crossed his arms. "dads been in prison and um... well my mum she left when i was a baby" he said. he turned to look at me.

"i'm sorry" i said. i placed my hand on his arm. "you have a sister right?" he asked me. "yeah, mari, she's only about 4 years old" i said. "i have a brother but i don't see him often" oakley said.

dang, i feel like this kid is so alone. "who do you stay with?" i asked. "my gram. i've been with her since my dads arrest a couple years back" oakley answered.

we talked a bit more about our upbringing but i had one major question i needed answered. "why and when did you move to the states? i mean clearly your accent gives it away..." i tried not to laugh.

oakley smiled. "funny, no ones really asked that before. well, i was born in london. when my dad got arrested when i was 13, i was placed in foster care for a bit. then my gram flew to the uk and brought me back here with her. it was like this whole process though"

i honestly felt like i could listen to oakley talk for hours. i don't know what changed inside me so drastically that i wanted to be around oakley more and more.

i got a text from drea asking where me and oakley are. i showed him and we both agreed to walk back inside drea's home. i linked my arm with oakley's, almost like instinctively.

"hey, where were y'all two love birds?" drea teased. i shook my head. "we went to eat" i stated. "for 3 hours?" drea crossed her arms with a smirk. "and we were talking" i said through gritted teeth. drea was making it seem so weird.

oakley went to go sit with ricky and i heard them mutter to each other. weird. "did you want to stay over tonight, adri?" drea asked me. the time was about 11:32pm. i wanted to, but i knew i had to get home.

"i kinda have to head out already" i pouted. i hugged drea and said goodbye to ricky and oakley. "let me walk you out" oakley insisted. i accepted. we walked to my car. i broke the silence. "i had a nice time" i said.

"we should do it again..." oakley looked down. "i'd like that" i replied. oakley grabbed my hand and placed a small kiss. i just about melted inside. "get home safe" he told me.

the whole ride home, oakley never left my mind.
