adriana's pov

it's been 2 weeks since i've heard from oakley. no call or anything.

"what do you think?" drea asked me, snapping me out of my thoughts. she faced my direction and struck a pose in the long ball gown she was trying on.

i shrugged. "it's cute" i replied. "you said that about the last 5 dresses."

i looked down and let out a baby sigh. "you know, this would be more fun if you didn't already get your prom dress before me" drea growled.

like we ever made plans to get them together? she's always with ricky these days. plus my grandma took me to get mine.

"sorry" i muttered. why am i so out of it right now? i shook my head and straightened my posture. get out of your feelings adri. "i do like that shade of blue, though" i smiled.

"and it snatches you really good" i exclaimed. drea cracked a smile, "you right."

drea was sold on her sparkly blue prom dress, and we asked the associate if she could get it tailored to her fitting.

i scanned the rest of the boutique. they also sell tuxedos. if oakley were here he could get his tux fitted here, too.

i wandered off to the mens section and let my mind imagine the scenarios of oakley coming back to me. prom is in a few days, he could still come back at any time.

i sound so delusional.

my hand reached for a tuxedo with baby pink detailing that would match my dress perfectly.

another hand reached for the same tux and we touched. heat instantly rised to my cheeks, "sorry" i choked.

"you're good" the person said. upon looking at the person, i immediately recognized them to be johnny from school.

this was the person that i had liked so dearly in the past. this was supposed to be my 'dream man.' at least before i met oakley.

"you're going to prom huh?" johnny asked me, biting his lip. "yeah, i mean, i am still running for prom queen and everything" i said, nearly hypnotized by him exactly like i used to be.

"y'know i started running for prom king because of you" a smirk grew upon his lips. i shook my head, "you would've ran for it anyway."

"you inspired me though, you're really ambitious, adri" johnny leaned closer to me, decreasing the space between us.

"so you're going with someone?" i asked him. he pouted, "i only wanted to ask one girl but i wasn't sure if she was still available or not."

"oh, who?" i raised a brow. "you" johnny smirked. i let out a nervous chuckle.

"your dress is pink, right?" johnny asked. "yeah" i answered plainly. "noted." johnny cheekily said.

"adri!" drea shouted from the exit of the boutique. "that's my cue i guess" i said before walking to drea.

"what was that about?" drea asked me as we walked to her gwagon. "johnny and i were talking about prom" i answered. "girl, what about oakley?" drea turned the car on.

"What about him? i haven't heard from him since he got arrested. i'm sure the phones in jail work fine" i snapped.

"i'm just saying, you should wait for him" drea shrugged. wait for him? i'm trying.

oakley told me he'd be back. but i mean really, what else can i do right now?

"i've been wanting to visit him, but everyone at the county jail knows my dad, and i can't let him know i'm trying to see oakley" i looked down in defeat.

"i can't tell you what to do, just don't get with someone else just because you haven't heard from him" she added. i remained quiet.

"what do you even like him about him anyway?"

that question triggered so many memories to flood my mind at once. i looked out the car window in deep consideration to her question.

"we bumped heads a lot in the beginning. he was really mean and he had his little comments about what he thought of me or what he had heard--" i began my reasons.

"all of our bickering and everything he would tell me really stuck with me. and when we would go to my grandma's house there was always underlying chemistry, which i hated at first... but then i began to accept it..."

"i had realized this was the first guy to ever not see me as 'adriana, cheerleading captain, popular, stuck up' but just 'adri.' and i was scared of that. i had worked so hard to build an image..."

"...and he saw right through me" i looked at drea with transparency. "when he had robbed my house, i was mad. you saw how angry i was. but i remind myself oakley didn't have the upbringing i did" i admitted.

"i had things you could replace. all he had when he went home was his elderly grandmother. and now he doesn't even have that" my voice broke. i twiddled my fingers on my lap and let out a sharp breath.

"he came to rescue me at ricky's party. now he's doing time because of me."

drea pulled the car over to the side of the road and wasted no time bringing me into a hug. "adri, i'll call the jail and ask to set up a visit with oakley for you" drea looked into my eyes.

my best friend wiped a tear that unknowingly slid down my cheek. we hugged once more.

she pulled out her phone and looked up the jail phone number. "hi i was wondering if it's possible to set up a visit with an inmate at this facility?" drea spoke into the phone.

"what is the inmate name?"

"oakley caesar-su"

"...give me one moment

drea looked at me with optimistic eyes and a positive smile. my heart was beating and my hands were sweaty.

"...i'm sorry, the inmate you're asking for posted bond about 2 weeks ago and is no longer in our custody..."
